More Repaints, More Pictures

OK guys. Here are some more pictures of my repaints. Some are top to bottom redos, others are relatively minor alterations.

Very nice 109. The 177 caught my eye as well.

What plane is the very first picture? The bi-plane in the Chinese camo. That looks really cool. Thanks for taking the time to post these.

Anything for a weird life.

It's one of the Altaya biplane series, like the Japanese "Pete" in the same thread. Both can be had via eBay and both needed a good deal of work to make them reasonably presentable. In the case of the Hawk III, I had to rework the entire tail area-- including support wire ( actually thin brass rods ) and a new paint job, mainly for the stripes. Aside from this, I spent some time reducing glue blobs on other attachment points and, of course, the whole plane needed repainting in one place or another.

Curious if you have ever used chalk pastels for weathering and exhaust stains? Back when I was heavy into model building I used these quite abit. It really aided in layering colors to show some variation in exhaust stains. Earth tones were helpful in giving tires look of rough strip conditions.

When I was making kits---which is some years ago--- I used various types of chalky pastels but wasn't terribly pleased with the results. I usually use highly diluted mixes of black or very dark gray, in certain cases adding in a reddish brown hue where this is appropriate. While results vary, I find that I can get a layered effect by letting the first exhaust or panel line's coat dry for a few hours and then lightly dabbing a slightly darker version of the weathering color on the inner parts of the stained area.

I went with a dry application, just had to make sure I used a fresh piece of sand paper between different colored sticks. Real trick I found was not botching the work by touching it prior to light airbrushing with either flat clear or satin clear finish.
