| Improving the CC Wimpy.. I got tired of looking at the gawdy white interior on the CC Wimpy which I felt ruined a perfectly fine model, so I decided to do something about it.. I disassembled the fuselage and painted the entire interior, or all I could mask off.. I also relocated the radio/navigator (that you can't see anyways), to the nose of the A/C to give him something to do.. And I do think it looks much better now.... Sorry about the "quickie" pic, but its late.. ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Improving the CC Wimpy.. It looks great Harry and well worth doing. I've always hated the 'empty greenhouse' stuck on the front although it appears to be an accurate feature. Surely a single Vickers K gun (like the Halifax) would allow him to keep the U Boat crew distracted. Apart from the depth charges/bombs this meant that this Wimpy had two rear .303 mgs for offence/defence? In certain marks of the Sunderland two .303 Brownings were installed on each side of the nose fired by the pilot in addition to the front turret gunners pair. In fact RAF B-24s of Coastal Command had a ventral pack of 4 20MM cannon to dissuade U Boat crews from fighting it out. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Improving the CC Wimpy.. Hworth18, What did you have to do to pop the nose off the bird? (I presume that is what you did?) Could you briefly outline the steps? You did a really amazing job. Thanks for posting the pictures | |||||||||||||

| Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..
The Welly came apart rather easily. There were 4 screws I removed on the bottom of the fuselage (there are 6 but 2 hold the leigh light assembly in). The front greeenhouse top just popped off with a little pressure, but the bottom of the greehouse nose is rivet inside the fuselage.. What I couldn't remove, I masked off, and sprayed everything with a medium green which is a little darker than RAF interior green, but I wanted things to stand out.. | ||||||||||||||
