Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

Did the exact same thing a while back also, but my main motivation was to try and reduce the seam gap at the front behind the nose. Took the Wimpy apart and took a file to the metal nibs inside that the screws went into to get a tighter fit. Noticed the poor old lonely radio operator in the middle of the aircraft were you couldn't see him. So brought him up front into the nose also. Really makes a large improvement. Never though of the paint, nice touch Harry.

Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

Got one of these CC Wimpies for Christmas and gave it a try. You inspired me Harry! Thanks. It is better. So much for mint condition.

Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

Parsig, I think the CC Wimpy looks soooooo much better and it might even improve its value a little..

Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

Thanks a lot! Little tricky holding on to the thing while doing all that. The wires for the light place some tough limits on the work space when taking the cockpit piece out with the pilots, and getting it back in.
I have not permanently attached the front glass yet.
Thought he still looked bored up there with all that empty space but not sure what I could get or make to put in there with him.

Needs something it seems?

Well, I think he was just an observer anyways, don't know if he'd look right with a bombsight..

Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

I know Corgi got this right but it looks so bare up front. All this Wellington had to hammer a U-Boat was it's depth charges or bombs; nothing to keep a U boat's AA gun crew busy. The RAF Coastal Command B-24s had a ventral pack of 4X20MM Hispano cannon for this purpose. Even the Sunderland had a pair of .303 Browning MGs on each side of the forward nose and aimed by the pilot in addition to the front turret. A scary place to be up front in this Wellington!

Great work Harry and Parsig on giving the 'conservatory' a bit of life!

Thumbs up Re: Improving the CC Wimpy..

Well, Harry your photos did get me to look at the Welly again and give it some serious consideration. Albeit I didn't get a CC one, iI did get the No 9 Sqn one that fits the direction of my collection very well. Thanx for the inspiration . . . this model is a cracker!I just love all the detail. Below it fills out my desktop collection of Early Era RAF aircraft.

Congrats JPN!!!
The Welly is a fine bird and one of Corgi's most underrated molds but will help complete any RAF collection nicely..
