| Gaincorp Su-27 nose job I was at my local hobby store the other day, shopping for model paint, when I happened upon this aftermarket 1/72 scale resin Su-27 nose... ![]() So, for 7 bucks I figured I'd take it home and compare it to the Gaincorp and Witty Su-27 radomes. Witty's (left), Resin Aftermarket (center), Gaincorp's (right)... ![]() Since the resin radome was much more accurate than Gaincorp's or Witty's, I took a mold of it so I could perform nose jobs on all my Flankers. The original tan resin nose went on my Witty Su-37 while my first white resin casting went on my Gaincorp Su-27. Radome removed... ![]() Because the resin radomes are solid, I had to ream them out to fit... ![]() New (unpainted) radome in place... Original radome... ![]() Gaincorp Su-27 with nose job next to Su-33 with original nose... ![]() Gaincorp Su-27 & Witty Su-37 with nose jobs... ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Gaincorp Su-27 nose job That looks 10x better! Thanks for the tip on the radome conversion kit, I checked out the website where that Su-27 nose was available from and they have several products for 1/32, 48 and 72 scales you could actually use to improve accuracy for your conversion projects. Cool! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Gaincorp Su-27 nose job Outstanding work! When I have some extra time I plan to super-detail a die-cast model, but I haven't figured out which one to do yet. Maybe a two-seater version of either the Su-27 or Mig-29. You have inspired me my friend!! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Gaincorp Su-27 nose job That is pretty cool! Now the question: why can't diecast companies get this kind of stuff right in the first place? The only answer I can come up with is sheer laziness... FVD | |||||||||||||

| Re: Gaincorp Su-27 nose job Hi Skidmarks. New to the forum. Interested in the new nose for the SU-27. How did you get the old nose off your aircraft without damaging the surrounding area? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Gaincorp Su-27 nose job
The Gaincorp nose came off fairly easily. Just alternately applied up/down & left/right pressure until it came off. With Witty's, it's not consistent. On some Su-27s, the radome comes off with very little effort. On others, the radome is so securely glued on that you have to cut most of the radome off and then chisel off the bits that remain around the mounting rim. | ||||||||||||||
