Question Dirty Little Diecast - What Should We Do

Well it finally happened to me; I got porked on EBay by a Bad Seller. You know how it goes, says items are mint, photos look good so you bite.

What you get is a filthy, dirty piece of Die Crap

So it's hours spent cleaning up the goods.

While doing just that I was thinking that all of the collectors out there must have some good ideas for cleaning up shop

My technique is to use the trusty 'Can O Air' to get the majority of the filth off of the item. Next item that works wonders is the Swifer Dust Rag worked gently over the surface. Just don't use the Pledge version which is actually impregnated with wax. Use this on a flat paint and it will turn shinny in no time

If the item was really filthy like the items I received then use a 70% Isopropyl Alcohol with a cotton make up pad (just steal a few from you better half, she'll never know) and or a Q-Tip. This solution is delicate enough that it should not damage the paint, tampo pads or decals and it really lifts off the grime while keeping a flat finish looking flat.

Yes, the cotton can leave little fuzz ball here and there so next step is to use the Can O Air one last time.

Stand back and admire your work because the item should look like new

Yup, I could have had that...............

For the light stuff I've found that an automotive detail brush that you find at Wal-Mart works great. It's sorta similar to a shaving cream brush.

Makeup brushes work quite well too. And with the whole metrosexual fad now, you don't get any weird looks when you bring your assortment of makeup brushes to the checkout counter.

Re: Dirty Little Diecast - What Should We Do

Any tips guys on how to freshen up/clean dull canopy glass? A few of my older models particularly S-Sugar Lancaster have clouded canopies.

Shamrock, try rubbing the canopy with toothpaste (paste not gel) and a soft cloth. I use something called Blue Magic metal polish (I know, but it works great on clear plastic) but I don't know if it's available where you are.

Lorraine has a large brush, I use it to clean my diecast.

This is my secret weapon i use to fight the dust off my 1:72nd and some 1:48 planes.
A camara lens soft brush.I have had this for years works really well.
With the cap on it looks like a lipstick case.

Lorraine has a large brush, I use it to clean my diecast.

And does she then use it to "do" her face?

Ps. I also look forward to meeting Lorraine at Rickenbacker!
