| Re: Decal question
They're extratech decals I bought from squadron.com so I really don't know. You really can't see the silvering unless it's at a certain angle in a bright light and I haven't added the dullcote yet so I wasn't sure if that would go away after I spray it down. Thanks guys for being patient with me on this one ![]()

| Re: Decal question I think mine turn out better skipping the first layer of future. The future darkens some paint a little and unless you are applying it to the entire model so it's uniform, I find that the decal with setting solution, future, dull cote process works really well expecially if you are just applying a certain decal or a few. It seems important to have the surface under the decal and around the decal be the same finish before the dull cote spray goes on. I especially use this for the 21st C models and you can't tell they are not paint IMHO. Do you more experienced modelers know what I mean and do you find that skipping the 1st coat of future works well? My recent one is this German market Fw-190 I got from Classic Closeouts. It has the weird black cross on the tail. I took that off tonight with some Pretty Nails remover and will go about applying the proper decals soon. The other tampo markings on the bird are gloss finish so I will either only Future the swastika or Dull Cote the whole bird at the end. Probably that. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Decal question
I have found that an overly heavy application of Future before applying a decal can cause problems. However I want to avoid silvering. My solution is to dilute the Future with at least 50% water and brush it on carefully only where the decal is meant to be placed. Once the decal is in place and dry, I create a mask-like cutout, using a paper towel which is laid over the model, leaving only the decal and a small surrounding area to be sprayed with Dullcoat. This usually produces acceptable results.
