Re: Anything, Anywhere, Anytime

I will post some pics soon. Right now I have taken all of the decals off of it, masked the windows and various areas, shot it with a primer, sanded it, and then shot it with a metalizer aluminium paint. I have decals for an Air America Huey, so that won't be a problem, once I get the blue painted on it, which I will do this weekend.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Well guys, here she is. My 1/48th scale Franklin Mint Air America Huey. Tell me what you think. So far this is the third model I have done. Also in the photos is my Air AMerica baseball cap (signed by an AIr America pilot), and a real patch he gav me from the unit. I hope you guys enjoy.

Very nice, Mustang....Like my imaginary friend, jim, I have no heliochopters at the current time either, but I do think that someday I will have to get a Huey as that probably represents the Vietnam war more than anything else I can think of. There's no mistaking that distinctive sound either...

Re: Anything, Anywhere, Anytime

No there is not. My dad was a door gunner in them during Vietnam. I did one for a Christmas present for him in his markings. I work for an air ambulance company, and some of the bases I have been to are still using the old huey. I have several 1/48th scale UH-1's in my collection including a Corgi "Dustoff", a Franklin Mint "Dustoff", a 1st air cav huey with swords on the front, one with the 1st air cav shield, and the Air America one that I just finished. Sorry that my pics are not that great, as I am new at photographing diecast. Like the saying goes, "When the last Blackhawk is parked in the desert, the crew will ride home in a Huey".

I can definitely believe that...bet your dad has some stories...Who puts out the best diecast Huey in your opinion?...I've always been more partial to the longer 'D' version..seems like only FM/Armour does those though.

Re: Anything, Anywhere, Anytime

I will be honest and say that I like Franklin Mint better. I think that they did a better job on the rotor head. They have more detail work on that area. The Corgi versions are nothing to laugh at though, and the interior of the corgi version is more detailed. I like tham both. The FM version of the dustoff is more accurate. My dad was in dustoff's and said that they always left the doors on, on the medical ships.
