Bonding agents

I'm sure this subject has had much ink spiiled in discussing this issue, but I'm a late-comer to the chat site and could use some useful tips.
I'm an old plastic kit builder and I know that Testor's plastic works best on plastic: not plastic and diecast. Elmer's is unbeatable when joining two pieces of wood, but almost useless when bonding diecast to diecast, or plastic to diecast.

So, what's left? Super glues or someting in between. In the future it would be useful to be able to dis-assemble the the models, but not vital. I have no intention of selling off my ever expanding collection.

Tha's what grandsons [and granddaughters] are for.

Although it may be similar to Elmer's, I've found Weldbond (Canadian product) to be exceptionally good and versatile. It's a white glue that dries clear and can be easily 'peeled' off if you need to restore the model to its original condition.

Re: Bonding agents

I mainly use super glue for permanent stuff and Elmers white glue for something I think I might want to remove or change later. I ONLY use white glue to tack canopies back on.......it's taking a chance of fogging the clear parts if super glue is used.

Re: Bonding agents

Contact Adhesive Gels (aka AcrylCyanoate or Super Glue) are hard to beat for diecast to diecast.

I would would always use a water-soluble white glue when bonding any thing that you may want to reconfigure in the future, like landing gear or ordinance.
There are many good white glues on the market that are tuned to this task.

:attention: Never use C.A. when working with or in close proximity to Styrene, Vinyl, or clear plastics as the adhesive and it's vapors may irreperably damage those materials.
