Fixin'-up a Legends tank

Back on MH1, Parsig had posted a few pics of his efforts to spruce up the cheapo Legends series Tiger tank that could be purchased at TM. He did a great job and inspired me to try my luck. Of course, MH1 morphed into its current incarnation before I was able to post my effort at improving this "toy".

So today I PM'd Parsig and let him know I gave it a try and asked if he had tried to do anything similar to that green brick known as the Churchill tank. He hadn't, but asked to see pics of the Tiger I did. Here they are and I apologize if you need to use eye bleach after viewing them.

I do not have any great modeling skills (which should be apparent), but I think with what little I did I got a much better looking model out of the deal for the lofty price of $9.99! The duochrome color scheme of the original model is a real turn-off, but with a little effort so much can be gained.

To the original I added a black wash for some detailing around hatches, doors, etc. I also painted the exhaust with flat black and added rust. The cables were painted black with "scrapes" of steel and rust. Guns and tools were also painted to reflect some use.

We need some suggestions on how to improve the Legends Churchill Mk. VII!

Oh Black 6, don't sell yourself short! Your're an incredible slouch.

This is a fine effort. From these shots I think this is every bit equal to the job I did. Really. Very nice. I see you fixed the plank color under the cables and painted the MG too. Those tools are tough and esp. painting them on the tank very different from a kit. I added a smoke film to the exhaust and stained it a bit more but other than that I like yours better I think.

Heck if I find a brick I may send it your way.

I picked up some of these Corgi 1/50th tanks @ Tuesday Morning also for 10-15 bucks... Some are nice, though I really try to stick w/ the 72nd scale subjects.
The Cromwell w/ whitewash snow cammo is on my workbench now getting a bit more realistic weathering and other details. I will post a "before and after" photo set this week.

Re: Fixin'-up a Legends tank

Thank you for the compliment Parsig. It is amazing what just a little paint can do to improve the look of a model that would otherwise be passed by. As you demonstrated with your tank, they are cheap enough to take a chance at customizing or refining a technique.

And JC, I'll look forward to seeing what you do with your Cromwell.

Nice job with the Tiger, I may just pick up one now, and try my hand at it...
