Corgi "1/72" armour

I note that the website www.diecast72.com includes pix of the four (?) Corgi Showcase models which are very close to 1/72 scale - the M3 halftrack, the Honey light tank, the Scorpion light tank, and the M8 Greyhound. The flaw with the halftrack is its terrible 0.50 cal MG, and that it runs on clear plastic wheels under the chassis (as does the Scorpion). However, the M8 armoured car - while flawed - is a pretty good casting, with decent (turning) wheels, and it can be salvaged:

1) Cut off the ridiculously over-sized main gun barrel, and replace with a scale 37 mm from a model kit, or from the Corgi 'Honey' mould (which is actually to scale).
2) Similarly, replace the 0.50 with a proper MG
3) Insert painted 1/72 crew figures into the turret - they can be made to fit, though you may have to cut their legs off...

I don't know about the Scorpion tank being 1:72 in scale, I'd be interested in your source. I've wanted one for a long time, but diecast72 doesn't show a British Scorpion tank. It shows a M3 Stuart, Greyhound, and M3A1 Halftrack. I would like the Greyhound, since nobody else makes one. Are you sure about being able to replace the gun barrel, sounds like it could be real mess? Ditto for the M2 Browning.

I have 3 of them and having compared them to a 1/72 plastic kit of one I found them to be identical in size.

Yes, I actually found it quite straightforward. Just amputate the Greyhound's gun behind the external mantlet (using a sharp knife, rather than scissors), but make sure to leave the internal part attached and still able to elevate/depress. Then carefully drill a 1mm hole into the center of the remaining mantlet on the turret.

Take the Corgi Honey tank, and amputate the gun just behind the mantlet (so the MG is still attached). Discard the rest of the model. Drill a 1 mm hole into the center of the gun's mantlet.

Cut a paper-clip (pref plastic coated) into a section long enough to 'mate' between the Greyhound's turret mantlet and the Honey's gun mantlet. Lightly coat the section with white glue, and insert into the Greyhound's turret mantlet. Then insert the gun onto the paperclip section which is protruding from the turret mantlet.

Leave to dry - the gun should now elevate and depress. Suggest re-painting the barrel and mantlet to match to colour of the Greyhound.
