Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

Any idea how/why they selected 56th scale?

If I remember, Billliu the rep from Hobby Master said the 1/56 tanks were based on a line of motorized tanks they make. And as such I imagine they had no consideration if it was a standard scale.

Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

The 1/56 Hobby Master tanks are out and so are the first 2 1/48 scale tanks. Hobby Master will start to produce 1/72 AFVs in 2007 and 1/72 will be their main focus for planes and vehicles.

So are they killing their 1/48 line as the focus on the 1/72? 1/48 is my favorite scale for armor and vehicles and I was ecstatic when I saw HM was going to issue them in this scale. I already have the initial King Tigers on the way and am greatly anticipating the line but if they are moving away from the 1/48 line already .... .

The last I was told is they will continue to make the 1/48 scale, they are just starting to make the 1/48 scale planes so I can't see them backing away from their 1/48 scale vehicles.
I think what you will find is that the 1/72 will get attention because it is the most active scale at this time. This will not cause them to pay any less attention to 1/48. I believe that in 2007 you will see something like one 1/48 tank and one plane, 1/72 tank and plane and 1/56 tank model a month. This is just the impression I get, it's not a commitment from Hobby Master but I'm sure if the 1/48 scale does well it will lead to bigger and better things.

Question Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

Hawkone,

Are you familiar with the Hobby Master RC tanks in 1:56 scale? Do they look very just like the diecast armor released this year? What functionality do they have? I am thinking maybe I could have some extra fun by combining my hobby using the RC tanks and my family's own tigers (cats). I skipped the 1:56 armor because of the odd scale, but after reading the reviews at your (excellent) website I am having second thoughts. Thanks.

Hi.

I haven't personally seen one but they are the exact same model as the regular 1/56 tanks. They were produced with the ability to add the r/c equipment so I think this is why they went with a 1/56 scale. Apparently the r/c stuff is very big in China and Russia. Here is what I copied off my Tech Power page.
Tanks: Come with two micro motors, the two tracks can be controlled separately to give you real tank steering. Can easily perform movements like running forward/backward, turning and
climbing or descending a slope. Three frequencies are available: 27, 40, 49Mhz.
Batteries: Requires 3 x AAA, 1 x 9 volt.

I hope this helps you out.

Dave

Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

I for one am looking extremely forward to the 1/48 HM armour range as it will complement the (somewhat overpriced) Corgi 1/50 range well.

The initial Koenigstigers are looking particulary good - does anyone have any idea of the intended retail price of these?

I think around $30-40....

Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

I've seen the King Tigers as low as $24 on some online sites. For that, they are a steal. I like the 48/50 armor a lot and plan to get at least one of each mold I like.

Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

I've noticed that the first two 1/48 King Tigers are already on back-order at TFM - never even knew that they were in stock . Ah well, the snow Ardennes version that will hopefully arrive in the next month or two is looking really good .

Re: Corgi v. HobbyMaster Armor

Has anyone yet received the HM 1/48 King Tigers and if so how do they compare with the Corgi 1/50 Armour range?

Eagerly awaiting some sage advice ...
