US 2007 Catalog

The new figure sets look pretty nice. I like where they are going with this line, but it would be nice if they took up some new vehicle molds.

Re: US 2007 Catalog

The figures are great but I fear the vehicles are going the way of the dodo. I may be recalling incorrectly but it seemed all of the new vehicles were paired with figures and generally pretty thin over all. I love this line and have all of the figure sets thus far and will buy all of this year's as well. I had hoped to see more vehicles, however. Why does no one want to touch the Panzer IV or Stuart in 1/48 - 1/50?

It also seems that the dioramas are completely kaput. I don't own any and have only seen one in person but I was interested in Arnhem but this looks like another casualty similar to the 1/32 birds.

Ah well, over all, a great offering from Corgi just a bit thin on the vehicles.

Re: US 2007 Catalog

There hasn't been any new molds for 2 years.

They really need to add to this line,

I guess the 1:64 scale "Tactical Strike" is finished....thankfully.

Re: US 2007 Catalog

I have about twenty Corgi 1/50 scale tanks and military vehicles so you would think I'd be in favour of more 1/50 models and figures. But the fact is I think they are a blind alley for Corgi and they often go for next to nothing on eBay simply because they made to many and not many people want them.

I have said many times that Corgi should get into 1/72 scale military vehicles to complement their 1/72 aircraft. Dragon have hardly scratched the surface of the vast amount of molds that could be done in 1/72 diecast. This gives Corgi an ideal opportunity to make soft skinned vehicles and the lesser known armor that so many collectors have been requesting.

For example I have bought several tanks and vehicles from the Corgi Showcase range simply because they are close to 1/72 scale. Surely it wouldn't be a big step for Corgi to move from the various Showcase scales to 1/72 overall.

I'm not so sure that Corgi would be a good fit in the 1/72 military diecast market. They would be competing against Dragon's highly detailed, but high plastic content models, while Corgi likes its vehicles to stand up to at least a small measure of getting rolled around. If you look at Corgi's traditional bread and butter, it is 1/50 scale vehicles. 1/72 is a great scale for airplanes, but frankly, it is too small for vehicles to appreciate their detail and 1/72 figures are useless to look at without a magnifying glass. I think by adding additional figure sets (and hopefully heavy weapons) they may start reaching out more to the wargaming community who can appreciate their durability compared with the 1/72 Dragons.

Re: US 2007 Catalog

I've grown to love the 1/50 lineup of Corgi Armor, especially when displayed with the Forward March figures.

I saw a really sweet looking Winter Tiger I in the 2007 Catalog (CC60512) on page 19.

The new Panther with the skirts looks good too! I think this is their first Panther w/skirts (pg. 20) and check out that Armored Flak Trak! Nice mod!

Re: US 2007 Catalog

I agree on the Tiger and Panther. Very nice. I love the winter Panther I have now but the winter Bulge Tiger with foilage - not so much.

Re: US 2007 Catalog

I saw that Flak Trak and it is very cool I must say. I prefer the HM and Corgi larger scale armor as well though I will still buy the occasional Dragon if I get a deal.

I agree. 1/72 scale diecast tanks are becoming more and more popular. Besides collectors, 1/72 wargaming is huge and gamers love these. They could open up to an entirely new market if they were to put some effort in 1/72 armor and softskins with just the wargaming market alone, let alone collectors.
