Re: Another price hike

When you are all moaning about the US v UK prices for Corgi, you want to spare a thought for of us living in the antipodes!

If I were to buy a Corgi AA fighter from a model shop here, the cost is usually around NZ$95 (12.5% of which is the government Goods and Services Tax - GST - commonly known as Grab, Snatch and Take!). Based on today's exchange rates, that equates to approx. US$60, or about £31!!!

The guys in Australia are faced with similar costs, although the AU$ is a little stronger the the $NZ. And from what ZS- says, the situation in South Africa is even worse.

As a consequence, most of my collection has been ordered from The Flying Mule - which works out considerably cheaper than buying locally. But then shipping costs start to bite. Last week my RAF Catalina and the new Panavia Tornado arrived. Shipping on those cost me over US$50!!!

Thumbs up Re: Some collectors are nice.

I was reacting to all the bashing in general. When I started collecting, a 1/72 spit or ME-109 or P-51 by Corgi was around $30 to $40 here in the USA and they were hard to come by, this was around 5 to 7 years ago, I think, so too me the pricing is not that much higher than it was then. In fatc quite a few models are less now with improved quality and selection.

The Warbirds and the History Channel stuff which I liked alot, are far less than the prices I used to pay. I am just happy someone at Corgi must be into this, Airplanes, Aviation and the Hobby, especially after seeing the 2007 Cat, amazing.

Flaps

Hey there Flaps,
I started this thread before the 2007 cat was announced.

My gripe had more to do with Corgi increasing the price of their older lineup.
Mainly the tired moulds of the early releases.

Sure, Gemini hit the ground with a $30.00 price tag but IMHO their Spit and Mustang are superior to Corgi's. I've got no problem with spending money on quality items. I think the Glads and the Stringbags are well worth the current price.

I guess my biggest concern at the time was that since I started collecting some 3 or so years ago, Corgi have raised their prices by a pretty substantial margin without any improvement in their existing molds.

Now that the 2007 catalog is out I am a little more encouraged but I still don't think I'll be buying any of the P-51D's or Spits at SRP.

Lightbulb Re: Another price hike

And this talk of a price hike is a surprising why????

It is my opinion that Corgi's AA line of products is a bit under priced here in the US market. The great examples of this are the Gladiators and Swordfish models. I am VERY curious what Corgi's cost is on one of these though having said that I think those models are a GREAT deal @ 30-35 each. I hate to admit it but I would have happily paid more for them (35-45 ea) without even hesitating!
I feel like w/ Corgi I generally get more for the price than other manufacturers and the "limited" run selections are a huge selling point with me. Another subtle point is the packaging. I am moving and have been packing my 500 or so models. The Corgi's are Soooo easy to re-box. This is a small point but it helps w/ the longevity and value of the models in my view.
In all of my hobby endeavourers there are invariably those folks who expound at length on the "new" this or that they would like to see produced and then squeal loudest about the price when the manufacturer listens and "builds" it!
Waaa Waaaa Waaa!!! If you don’t want to pay whatever price, don’t then! There are plenty of us who will pay if we like the product.
