Thumbs up Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

I have said it before; this is amongst the nicest diecast models made! Right in there with the CMC cars and the GMP aircraft models!!!! I have the first two Swordfish releases and they are perfect!

If Corgi can afford to keep this up (the Catalina and Gladiator are also SUPURB) they will not only survive but jump to the top again! Very happy with these releases!

Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

I own the Bismark Swordfish, and I haven't got it yet, becuase it is with a preorder, but I have however seen one, and they are really something.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

I received the 'Silver' A2A Swordfish today and all I can say is that it is one of the best Corgis that I've ever seen .

It is close to being perfect (a perfect 10/10) and Corgi should be congratulated for their efforts (the plastic wings are not a problem, although it would have been good, but impractical, to have them in aluminium ).

(The only problem it poses for me is whether I should also get the Bismarck version .)

Also, I'm starting to think that bi-planes look really cool and if someone can produce that multicoloured one with the incredible woodgrain finish (as featured and built to perfection by Planenuts), I would definitely buy one, or two or three... .

Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

Received the Bismark copy today, and must say this is truly a great model. After adding 2 gladiators to the collection this was a must have model. Will be picking up the other limited eddition Swordfish in the next few weeks. Corgi are on a winner with this model, and i would prefer to only get one or two new releases every 6 months from Corgi if they all came up to this standard, rather than have the market flooded with rehashed and reworked old castings
I feel that Corgi would be on a real winner, especially as there are so many new guys on the block, if they were to specalize and produce castings of real quality to set a benchmark in diecast that would have collectors lining up to add to inventory.

Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

I received mine yesterday and I must concur with the above sentiments. I was simply amazed at the detail. My mom was over yesterday babysitting my two boys when I returned home and opened the box. She doesn't care a fig about aircraft but was gushing over the detail - she is a quilter and the rigging really impressed her along with the figures. Top notch offering. I went from planning on limiting myself the Bismark and Malaya version to going all in for each version. Corgi got it right on this bird to say the least.

Re: Rank the Corgi Swordfish

I am beginning to believe that I have been selected by the diecast gremlins to get a large percentage of lemons from each of the different manufacturers.

The Bismark Swordfish received today seems to confirm this suspicion. Not to belabor my bad luck, I will give everyone receiving these lovely metal-wired models (be they Swordfish or Gladiator) some advice: if the metal wires are slack or fouled up, DON'T TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I did, and the fix just didn't work because the wires can't be tightened without the right tools, which the factory no doubt has. Problem is, the factory application of the tools is definitely hit and miss, and that's why I rated my copy of the Swordfish 'Poor'.

One of the main wires on the wing was so loose it was sticking out 1/4" in front of the wing and just barely fit into the designated hole. I tried to stuff it further in the hole, but it wouldn't go any more. I tried trimming the wire, but got it two short (after three tries); there is no fix for too-short. In addition, the horizontal tail is way crooked, though I didn't notice that problem until I had made hash of the wire.

The wires on the two Gladiators were excellent, so you pays your money and takes your chances. In my opinion (pun intended), installing wires on these things seems a bit of a stretch for a company that has been having so many quality control problems. And I feel like I've thrown away $42 (shipping and handling included).

Such is war.
