Thumbs down Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

From Corgi's recent newsletter:

PRICE INCREASE

Following Hornby’s communication to our customers earlier this year I would like to remind you that many models will experience a price increase effective from the 1st September 2008. All orders already placed and any placed before that date for products not yet released will be honoured at their original price – therefore it is your last few days to increase any order requirements.

AVIATION ARCHIVE DECORATION POLICY CHANGE

It is Hornby Group policy to market products which comply fully with all legislation across Europe and other major world markets. In Germany and certain other markets it is illegal to sell products bearing the Hakenkreuz. This emblem therefore does not appear on any Hornby group product, and will cease to appear on any Corgi item going forward. In those markets where it is legal to market the Hekenkreuz emblem, collectors may purchase after-market decals if they so choose in the relevant scales from Hannants Limited,

We all knew that this was a possibility considering that Hornby did the same thing with their Airfix line.

I'm sick of inaccurate markings. I grow tired of having to apply decals to my Dragon planes as it is, and they're dirt cheap. If I'm paying a fortune for a Corgi warbird, big or small, I expect Hornby to make sure that the markings on the plane are 100% accurate. If they're going to get politically correct all of a sudden, I won't buy Corgi anymore. I'll cancel all of my "Alder Tag" pre-orders and after the rest (like "Friday the 13th") I'll simply stop buying from them altogether.

Besides, it seems like it'd be illegal for them to force us to buy after-market decals to put the finishing touches on an unfinished product that cost us a fortune.

There's already considerable fury being vented at DAF. There are a lot of angry collectors thirsting for Hornby executive blood.

I'm not spending a fortune on something I have to finish. That was one of the reasons I initially preferred Corgi offerings over the likes of Dragon. No more.

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Geez.....One thing after another with this Hornby....
For the price you pay it should be accurate as it was during WWII.
I don't collect very many German planes so this won't be too much of a problem with me....But i
won't like putting German kill markings on my planes that's for sure.

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

While this is not an absolute deal breaker for me I find it interesting that I can get special export versions of Nazi era ships and aircraft from a German manufacturer with the correct markings.

Question Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Doggone!!!! There's pages of activity on two threads of the DAF and nothing much going on over here. What's with you guys? You lot happy to shell out on inaccurate Corgis?

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Let's hope that the "new Corgi" leaves German warbirds like the ME-410, DO-17z and ME-109G-10 or K to Hobby Master and, instead, puts out a Hudson, A-20, A-26, TempestV and, maybe, an IL-2, instead. As far as leaving swastikas off new product made from existing molds, such as the HE-111 or JU-88, that doesn't bother me much, since I'm buying these rather selectively and have plenty of suitable decals on hand. It's a black eye for Corgi, however, to pull this PC nonsense on the much awaited BF-110C. I, for one, hope that HM can modify its existing BF-110G mold, including a less chunky canopy, and give us some BF-110Cs as well. In that event, few will buy the Corgi version and, perhaps, this will teach their "brain trust" yet another, much needed lesson.

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Cornby is coming out with one bit of dissappointing news after another. Not honoring promotional token offer, price hikes, and now Politically Correct models. Not sure what Hornbys goals are, but selling models does not seem to be one of them. Hopefully the Cornby folks will lay off of German aircraft, so the folks at HM can do them right.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.
