Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

With hobbymaster and century wings gaining more and more ground in the diecast market with excellent models, this is about the stupitest move hornby could make. The money collectors can spend is limited and the demands for detail are getting higher and higher. Hornby acts like corgi is still alone in the diecast market.......they're in for a nasty surprise....

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

i am new to collecting aircraft,im an armour man normally, could i ask a stupid question?will this decision by hornby add a new dimension to all the pre hornby german aircraft with swasis, have they become more valuable, literally overnight, solely as a result of this "business strategic blunder" or is there too many in the market to effect values yet ?.

I suspect that pre-Hornby Corgi Aviation Archive Luftwaffe models are likely to become increasingly sought after with a corresponding increase in value ...

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

I think what we have to realise at this point is that we are no longer Corgi's market. I think the way Hornsby is looking at it is that we were their market, and the company failed. If they continue catering to that market, they will continue to fail. They are going to revamp the line and aim at a new market. That is why I'm so curious as to how well their product will sell? Will they find that bigger market? I don't see it developing on this forum and I'm very curious to see how many new folks Hornsby changes bring to the diecast world, and conversly to this forum?

Anything for a weird life.

Of course they will - we want museum quality models for 2 bob! That didn't work before and there is no reason to think that it will work again with a change of ownership. Not sure how big the USA market is to them, but I bet they have seen more lucrative opportunites. If hornby are going to make this work then they need to crack open a few additional markets. If this then lets them market in mainland Europe that much easier then it's a good move for them.

I'm not happy about it, but then to be honest I really don't know how many of these birds I was going to buy anyway. My collection is already far too big, and interests are starting to fade. From the number and type of comments posted in just about every cornby thread since the take-over I would say that the vast majority of you guys wern't going to buy these either, so then why does it matter, or do you just want to moan about something??? Oh I know - lets kick the dog!

Ooops!

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Given the same aircraft type offered by two different manufacturers, they just eliminated a key feature that decided past buying decisions in favor of their brand over, say, Dragon's.

But its really just an annoyance. I have a decal sheet for when needed. I have seven outstanding Corgi pre-orders, and the swastika issue only impacts one. The almost a year old pre-order prices seems to be holding so I'm good for now. My future Corgi purchases will hinge on the quality of the model versus the price.

I'm got time to see how this whole Hornby/Corgi thing sorts out. Hobby Master is getting most of my business at the moment, and looks to be for the foreseeable future. I won't be lacking models to buy.

Re: Hornby: no swastikas on new releases

Great job Hornsby! YOU SUCK! Just close shop and let HM run the show..correctly! Go back to making the little diecast cars with no swazis to worry about. BTW..where are the Halifaxs for the loyal folks that sent in their 6 blue tokens????
