Re: Catalinas are landing!!

I don't know about you guys, but all of the info on the Black Cat says it is a PBY-5, but the pics look like a PBY-5A. Does anyone know?

According to all of my PBY references both the 5 and 5A were used

The models they used for the pre-production shots is clearly a 5A, but the description "VP-34, LT. PFLEEGER, AIR FLEET WING 17, NEW GUINEA, 1944" definitely refers to a 5. Lt. Pfleeder's aircraft, registered 69 (BuNo. 08363), belonging to VP-34 (or VPB-34) in Fleet Air Wing 17, was involved in a semi-famous rescue of a B-24 crew that had ditched on its return from a raid on Truk. See profile; See also the third picture on this page (from Robert Hayes' book "Bless 'Em All"). As near I can tell, VP-34 was never equipped with the 5A. See here (go to the bottom of the page).

Re: Catalinas are landing!!

I don't mind either one, because I have Snafu Snatchers on the way as well. I just hope that they give you beaching gear with the PBY-5.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Catalinas are landing!!

I am looking for anyone that is getting that 210 Squadron PBY, but would consider selling the display base. I would like to display my Black cat PBY in that base. I also posted this in the wanted section. I know that from time to time people get bases like this, but never use them. I usually am one of these people.

I recall seeing a pre-pro black cat in a diorama base. Are we sure that it won't include one?

Re: Catalinas are landing!!

A quick search over on our sister forum across the pond yielded the image I recalled:

I have no idea if this is accurate. But the thread the image appeared in can be read HERE (go down to post #77). The Greorge Turner site shows a mock-up of the diorama base, but no indication of which models it will be included with. See HERE.

Re: Catalinas are landing!!

If I am not mistaken, I seem to remember on the other forum that (I think it was the CHC) had taken those pictures and switched the Black Cat and the Diorama plane just for the picture.

I have the Pembroke Dock Catalina and if the bubbles open I haven't been able to figure it out. By looking at them I don't think they open you might be able to pop one out, but I'm not trying it.
