| Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? You guys are all jumping the gun, I think ? None of this is set in stone as far as increases, I have a friend at 3000Toys and she sent me a letter they got from Corgi/Hornby, it does not say anywhere anything about definite prices increases, it does however say they want to have a set lowest advertised price like pretty much everyone else has. Trying to avoid dumping and the such, protect the profit which according to my friend at 3000 toys is not that great even at retail. Some prices may change, but most will not is what I read into this. Hornby is probably looking over what these things make and if not in line with the rest of there offerings they will most likely do some adjusting. Cant blame em for that. As far as me continueing to collect Corgi, I will, unless they really get out of hand on price. I will tell you when it comes to pricing, CW better watch themselves, as nice as they are, I am almost not willing to pay $75.00 for a single F-14, I got one on order and the guy offers free shipping, so thats why I did it, but if they raise em anytime soon again, I just wont be able to afford CW Planes. | Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? I know I've said this before on other threads, but here's my prediction: The diecast airplane industry is undergoing a shake-up caused first by increased competition and more recently by increasing production and shipping costs. Some companies won't stay in the business, but as long as there is a market for the li'l planes we hold so dear, someone will make 'em for us. We may see fewer offerings and we will continue to see prices rise, but we'll reach a new stable price point -- the price at which manufacturers can turn a decent profit given the number of units sold. Maybe that new price point will be somewhere around CW's current pricing; I can't see prices going much higher than that without severely reducing the number of units sold. On the plus side, I think we'll also continue to see better models -- better moulds, detailing, features, etc. Given that I have limited display space anyway, I'd rather have fewer, better models than more, models. ...Are ya listening, Cornby? | |||||||||||||

| There is no doubt that Corgis new owners will heve to step into the real world regarding their prices, I purchased my first Ju88 last week (AA36703) in the Modelzone sale @ just under £30 including p+p. IMHO this is about the right retail price for a model of this size & simplicity but full RRP is on a par with the excellent He111 which its self is over priced @ £69.99***. I have pre ordered all the BoB planes the Typhoon & Friday 13th as I have a feeling these will not dump but like most collectors I will be watching very closely when the 2009 range is announced. *** The cost of two HM 1:48 Spitfires ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? A lot of hobby/electronic/photo companies are doing this in the US. It seems to be seen as away of preserving perceived brand value, and I don't think you can blame Cornby for that, but from what I've seen it does not stop people from selling the product cheaper than the MAP. They just can't openly advertise the fact. The model rail company KATO USA also have introduced a MAP policy this year. The web store I bought from sold this stuff for considerably under the recommended retail price, but since the MAP price came into effect they have just not shown the price on the web site, and to see it you have had to put the item in your shopping cart. Still at a considerable discount. I think what it really boils down to is the web store and how they are going to implement it. If they want to be creative then I'm sure there are ways round it. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? It may not work well, but HM and CW both have it now as well as Corgi adding it, FM has had it but who knows that the heck there doing now since they seem to be half price everywhere including 3000Toys. Not sure on Witty or Dragon, doubt FOV or IXO Cares. I buy from a guy on Ebay and he has everything at around the same price as most others, his shipping is usally less and when he combines shipping its even less in the USA, on top of that he has many items where you can make an offer and usually this makes him less than anyone, I guess its his way around fixed pricing. | Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? Prices will continue to rise, in some cases drastically, in others by smaller increments. Then, on December 20, 2012 the world comes to an end, according to the Mayans. So, get 'em while you can, whatever the cost, and enjoy 'em while you can. Larz | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing? We had this same discussion when The Franklin Mint did exactly the same thing. Look how well it's worked for them. Now add a recession and mix in a company that appears to be in trouble and you have the recipe for bankruptcy. MAP is a tool to raise average price per unit received at (least) retail. It's basic economics that you do not raise prices in economic bad times. Guess there will be bigger lines at Tuesday Morning a couple times a year! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Minimum Advertised Pricing?
There is a hobby shop in town who couldn't sell the Franklins at their suggested retail prices or even at 30% off. He finally had to mark them down to 50% and even then it took weeks to clear them out. | ||||||||||||||
