| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule
What is your timescale for developing new moulds? Would you say that Hornby have wasted the last few weeks by not getting many moulds made and production completed and shipped worldwide on - How many? - A dozen new models? Horrido!

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule
I think Hornby did a magnificent job getting things moving in the time frame they had. Considering how defective Corgi's organization had become, and the fact it was obviously gutted by the previous management in its last days, the speed with which Hornby repaired the distribution network and got the existing inventory moving again, reflects well on Hornby and its management. This bodes well for future supplies, and may be an indicator of great things to come. We may see more frequent changes to existing molds, better new molds, and improvements to the molds that were planned but never released (such as the Me 110). It will be interesting to see if Hornby retains the Corgi name, or if they will make a clean break. My bet is they will retain "Corgi" and the pooch. This will allow them to build on an existing brand, and save money by not having to repackage available product. One area still unaddressed in all this: what happens to the US side of Corgi? Will it be melded back into Hornby UK, reorganized as a purely distribution service, or will it be reformed as a product-planning and distribution entity? Hopefully, some consideration will be made for the American (and Asian) market by Hornby. I would like to see more offering from Hornby/Corgi in the US ranges, such as the planned P-47/P-51B set. Looking forward to great things from Hornby/Corgi. In the meantime, we should sit back, relax, and dream about some new and future and wonderous mold...relax...Hornby...mold...Corgi...pooch...dre am... ![]()

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule
That's a great word Celtic! And it simply wraps up my main issues with the old (and possibly new?) Corgi. The US market is huge and a majority of their customers here are not die hard plane enthusiasts who are looking for more obscure and unusual planes. With so many interesting schemes still left to be done, I hope Hornby fixes/retools their older molds (P-51D for starters )and gives our market some fresh new planes too (the A-20 and B-26 Invader come to mind).

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule I've tried to combine the AA and US portions of the various Corgi release lists floating around. I compared the lists with what is available or is advertised as available later this year, from two different online dealers. One dealer is asking us to order now to avoid higher prices later this year. The models down to AA38201 C-47A are from the Corgi release list. The US models are from a list submitted in this thread. The AA models starting with AA34708 Canberra are from the printed list submitted here and on the UK site. As far as I know, everything after AA38201 is iffy, and may not become available, even though the vendors seem to be claiming they will be. Click here for HTML Table | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule It has still to arrive but Hornby contacted me this week and will be sending me a He111 stand after a request made to (and denied by) Corgi ages ago. Imo there's hope on that front. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule
More disappointment than hate for me, but I don't fault you at all for that Black6 - especially on the topic of the free Halifax deal! (ok, I'm feeling some hate on that one!!) I'd add this to your list: Cancellation of the Glacier Girl P-38 while releasing the (sorry) fugly Halealealeakala one. Didn't like that scheme on the IXO either, and that's not the fault of the crappy casting. Glacier Girl exists and flies - they'd sell tons - dumb choice to cancel it. And typical of Corgi to go to the expense of making a casting for multiple engine variants (in this case the 'F' model P-38 and it's PR version) and only produce one model with it - the RAAF one. They did the same with the P-40F - one Legend model. More evidence of their lack of direction.

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule Well I'm not ready to write Corgi/Hornby off quite yet. If Hornby had announced a range of new moulds and models for release even next year, I'd have taken it with a sizeable amount of a salt. Was it last year, 2007, Corgi announced a huge swell of new releases that had people very excited. I was bit out of step with general opinion and didn't get my hopes up, and didn't see much I really wanted. Halfway through 2008 and we're still waiting for many of those models, so I don't feel quite as cheated as some do, because I didn't think Corgi would deliver anyway. It looks, to me at least, as though Hornby are trying to tie up the loose threads from Corgi's schedule. I agree with that and am prepared to write off what's left off 2008 and say the first half of 2009 to let them clear the decks. If this time next year, all being well, I'm sat here and there has still been no indication of new moulds from Hornby, then I'll have to sadly concede that the 'doomsayers' have got it right. I do think that it's going to take time. I used to collect 1/72nd plastic soldiers when I were nowt but a lad, and the same thing would happen there. You'd get the Airfix catalogue promising new figures for 1986 or whatever, and sometines they appeared in 1987, or not at all! That was when Palitoy owned Airfix by the way, not Hornby... My hope is that Hornby are taking a measured approach rather than just looking for a quick fix. I don't think we'll know for another year whether they were serious about Corgi, or were just looking to acquire the brand name in time for the next round of Batman merchandising. If they add new models I'll belive they are serious, but that'll take them a while yet. If they opt for a slew of repainted Spits, Hurris, P51s and 47s and Me109s during the latter half of 2009, then I'll write them off. In the meantime, since Hobbymaster are finally putting pilots in their planes, I've got enough to keep the gleam in my eye, especially if they come out with the Beaufighter that's been mentioned! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi 2008 2009 Release Schedule
I just noticed this and don't see a thread but, Tricatus posted Glacier Girl prepros on 6/25. It's on the way it seems. What a great choice! They better make 10,000 and leave them on permanent supply with the Glacier Girl museum. This could be the largest selling diecast airplane ever. Maybe one of the mods or Hworth can ask Tri if we can post a pic here?
