This has been a most interesting thread. Reminds me a bit of the infamous Aussie Mossie Warehouse fire.

The fixed gear and lack of a inner starboard cannon suggest a re-paint of the Hanning Legend FW190. This has yellow under the nose cowling and the black on fuselage which is similar to this model. However, Legend 190s have a small hole underneath used to screw it onto the Legend stand, so doubt they would be able to use a proper AA stand. The clear packaging looks like that used for the Warbirds but these are gear up so doubt a fixed gear model would fit in.

As mentioned in an earlier thread a bit like the rogue Flying Mule 190 seen on ebay from the faulty first batch. Never found out what was wrong with these either.

All in all a bit of a mystery. The model's quality sounds OK so if you're mad on FW190s, provided you don't get carried
away with the price, seems worth the risk even if a proper Cornby turns up.

Re: Checker nose 190 on Ebay?

My FW arrived saturday and I must say I am more than happy. Except, the tail wheel is broken off. Does anyone have the email address for the spare parts lady at Corgi/Hornby???????

Hey Bluenosed...mine is the exact same! The seller doesn't answer emails either so that is why he got a negitive.

Re: Checker nose 190 on Ebay?

Everything else was fine, just the tail wheel. I kind of expected that after seeing the packaging. I know I've heard the guys either here or over on the DAF talk about getting spare parts from so-n-so. I can't remember her name?

Re: Checker nose 190 on Ebay?

I have a four part question.....

I don't understand gentlemen

The pictures on the auction clearly show the tail wheel in the 'up' position. Is this the broken part?

Looking at the legends style FW190, the tail wheel is in the 'down' position. Is this the broken part?

Which one is it? Has anyone received what is depicted in the pictures (Wheel up) for this auction?

Thank you in advance for providing some clarity.

Re: Checker nose 190 on Ebay?

Well, got mine today -- just opened it before running out for an errand. I still have NO IDEA what this thing is... but it looks better than I expected.

Mine is missing the starbord inside gun, like the others here -- and the ladder is also not present, which is also not in the pics in the auction (hadn't noticed that before). Also -- the "elmer plugs" are missing on the bottom. HOwever, mine has a proper lowered tailwheel -- W00t! I'll see if I can get to some pics today...

Wish the seller could/would provide details on what this is, but I suspect it is the remains of a rejected or abandoned/cancelled model that some enterprising factory workers took out the back door and are selling......... I remember Martin was concerned about this and requested proof of the first lot of White 11 rejects being scrapped...

Anyways well worth the entertainment value alone for what I paid. I suspect it is the cancelled checkered cowl we were all lusting after that the extra bits weren't made for for the raised gear configuration so they cobbled a legends-like version and plopped it on ebay. Do the legends have the Elmer plugs? (and ladders?)

Hey Pappy, the Legends DO have the ladder and the plugs.

Re: Checker nose 190 on Ebay?

Got mine today. Here is a brief photo essay:

This is how she was packed. Simple manila mailing envelope with bubblewrap inside.

The plastic cradle holding the model.

Base of the stand. Lots of scratches- clearly either used or a factory rejected base.

Bottom of the model. No step (see the holes for it). No Elmer plug.

Side view. Note I got a tail wheel in the down position. Also note the canopy frame is unpainted.

Missing inboard cannon just like all the others.

With my AA34301.

Overall I'm happy. Paided only $20 plus shipping on a second chance offer. Looks to me like it is a rejected model smuggled out of the factory or an attempt by the factory to get something back on the work done on the model after Corgi canceled it.

This is the same seller that I got mine from too. Looks the same but yours has the tail wheel as mine was broken right off in haf and nowhere to be seen. I really like the model dispite the cheap clam-shell packaging and once over with the bubble-wrap with the thin paper wrapping. The seller doesn't answer emails at all either. My canopy WAS painted though...very strange!
