Bomber "nose-art" (& top-scorers) what would YOU like to see made ??????

Last edited by Hornchurch : 06-22-2008 at 03:13 PM. Reason: Addendum
Crossed my mind the other day, that Corgi (or ANYONE else, come to that) have NEVER shown an inkling to produce/replicate the "top-scoring" (highest-mission Tally) American 8th Air-Force Bombers, of their respective types........namely......

B.17-'G' ; "Ol' Gappy" (serial No. 42-40003, coded "WA*H") of the 379th B.G (157 missions !!!!!!!)

or,

B.24-'H' ; "Witchcraft" (serial No. 42-52534, coded "Q2*M") of the 467th B.G. (130 missions !!!!!!!)

At least "Witchcraft"'s paint-scheme has been worn on the Collings-Foundation (airworthy) B.24, so it's had some exposure.

The mind boggles, however, regarding B.17-G, "Ol' Gappy".

I'd have thought; being as it's THE top-scoring B.17 Flying Fortress of ALL-TIME... (certainly 8th Air-Force)......

....not to mention (surely) THE top-scoring Four-engined Heavy-bomber in History, it would be more well-known ????????

Certainly, I'd have thought SOMEONE in the Die-Cast (or 'plastic') model-world would replicate it ?????????????

(AFAIK), the next highest-mission-scoring "Heavy" Bomber, is tied, between Lancaster ED.888, "PM*M.2" (Mike-Squared) & the Famous B.17-G, "Nine-Oh-Nine" , both of which, completed 140 missions each !!!!!!!!

The next two closest, being B.17-G "Outhouse-Mouse" with 139 missions completed;..... &

the Lancaster, "'S'-Sugar", with 137 missions completed..... &

Ironically, she is the ONLY one of the above, to have actually survived to the present-day - all the others (above) having been scrapped straight after the end of the War !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

B.26-B "Flak-Bait" and her AMAZING 202 missions score, is SUCH a high-scorer... & again, as far as I know, is only seconded, to what must have been....

THE top-scoring Bomber of WW.II = Mosquito B.IV, LR.503 (coded GB*F_) 213 missions......

....another plane which was scrapped & goes largely un-recorded !!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow; Question is = which of these aircraft (or, OTHERS which you Guys like, or know of) that ALWAYS seem to get overlooked by both Die-cast & plastic model manufacturers, would YOU like to see produced & on the shelves, for sale ????????

Wish I knew how to start my 1st attempt at a 'poll' (lol !)

Update; well, the 'poll' succeeded !!!!!!!!

ONE vote only, plz...... & state which plane & why, if none of the above !!!!!!!!!

BTW, just to nail my "colours" to the mast, I've voted for "Ol' Gappy" (42-40003, coded 'WA*H') 379th B.G.

....so, no 'national'-bias, from me !

Witchcraft gets my vote. Corgi has woefully under-represented 8th AAF B-24s in that line... a real shame so far.

Ditto - a good ETO B-24 is what I've been waiting for!

I voted for the Mossie, got to love an aircraft made out of plywood able to survive 213 missions. It is hard to pick only one, if someone (Corgi/Hornby) were to make any one of them, one would end up on my shelf.

I voted for the B-24. I'll go with B.24-'H' ; "Witchcraft" (serial No. 42-52534, coded "Q2*M") of the 467th B.G. as well.

Thumbs up Re: Bomber "nose-art" (& top-scorers) what would YOU like to see made ??????

I vote Mosquito. 213 missions is an impressive tally.

The Guy Gibson recon Mossie will be a welcome addition to my collection (if it gets released) this year. GB*F would be the cherry on top of the sundae.

Wish I could rank them rather than pick just one - it's too hard of a choice!!

OK, I'm going with the Mossie....
