Seeking opinion - Spitfire 1:72

If your budget only allowed for one of the following:

(Corgi 1:72) Spitfire MIX " Dick Audet" or the Spitfire MVIII "Eddie Edwards" -

Which one do you buy? Why?

(Any comment on the accuracy of the tail - pointed or rounded - on either model much appreciated.)

Thanks in advance for opinions/perspectives, etc.

Re: Seeking opinion - Spitfire 1:72

I personally prefer the desert scheme, and as far as accuracy goes, the rivet counters on the UK forum says that the Audet spitfire is a MIX"e" and that the cannons/machine guns are in the wrong place (backwards), but that is irrelevent to me.. I'd just go for the one that appeals to you the most..

I'm with Harry on this. If I worry about historical detail I would probably never buy a single model. I go with what appeals to me as the primary decision-making factor. By the way, I just picked up the "Eddie Edwards" and love it. Looks great in person.

That's ok up to a point, but if the model is sooo badly done that it truely isn't representative of the plane its meant to reflect then why buy it? I'm not a big rivet counter, i've bought several planes that do have mistakes on them, but they're not so big as to detract from the overall authenticity of the model. The Audet Spitfire however is truely an abomination i'm afraid.

That's fine, but why do you feel that way???

Re: Seeking opinion - Spitfire 1:72

I pre-ordered the Eddie Edwards Mk VIII but have to admit I was very disapointed with the rounded tail. I had assumed all Mk VIIIs had the pointed tail. I'm now led to believe that this in fact was not the case.

Re: Seeking opinion - Spitfire 1:72

I'm not a purist and love the planes for what they represented and for what these pilots did with them during the war. I buy what I like and in this case I would probably buy both, but if choosing one, I would go with Dick Audet in recognition of his accomplishment of becoming an Ace in a Day... If I have my facts straight!

May the farts be with you, and not me.

Re: Seeking opinion - Spitfire 1:72

Thanks, gentlemen.

(Since the Bong P-38 has been pushed back - Nov?????)
I picked up the Eddie Edwards Spit. Looks great, I love it - yeah, wish the tail was pointed as my reference books seem to indicate it should be - but what the heck. Something about that Med./desert paint scheme - very cool/appealing.

Thanks again for the opinions/perspective.
