| E-3 Sentry Advice Needed Guys, I need some advice. I really want to add an E-3 Sentry to my collection. There are 2 by Corgi, the USAF version and the RAF Version. While I like to keep my liveries of "specific one of a kind purchases" to be American versions I really prefer the RAF version. I prefer the dull gray paint of the RAF plane over the white paint of the USAF plane. I also prefer the engine nacelles of the RAF version. But, I want an USAF version of this plane. I am not planning on selling this, as it will be part of my military jet collection. And, I know a lot of people do repaints, so what do you think of getting the RAF version and applying USAF decals. I doubt anyone that would even notice what I did, unless one of you guys came over to see my collection. And, the fact that the RAF version is $25.00 cheaper is very tempting. Thanks for your advice | |||||||||||||

| Re: E-3 Sentry Advice Needed
Well, 'Sky'..... sounds ambitious & will ruin the value of your model !!!!!!!!!!! I know a little bit about the 707/135/E-3 airframes, as (Ironically) I live 1/2 way between a KC.135 base & the RAF's E-3 base ! Both often frequently fly over my house, though the '135's generally much lower (one 100th ARW '135 this Fri' just gone, was VERY low - below the heavy-rainclouds, over the clubhouse where we were drinking). The RAF E-3's operated by No.8 Sqdn out of Waddington, came into service much later than planned - because the replacement for the Shackletons they operated until 1991 failed dismally (Nimrod AEW w/Marconi electronics), so, instead of getting the earlier versions of the E-3, the Ministry of Defence (M.o.D) procured the (much) newer versions (powered by CFM.56 turbofans). They are the contents (!) of the large/fat engine nacelles in the RAF version !!!!!!!!!!!!! Being honest, if I were you, I'd buy both - & leave well alone. If ya fancy 'tinkering-around' then dabble with a plastic-kit !!!!!!!!!! lol Ya won't devalue that....... (just a suggestion). | ||||||||||||||
