J.P. once again, lucky man !
I wish I'd bought that 'Grand~Slam' Lanc' when it 1st came out.

In answer to ZS's post (above) & as a matter of interest, I thought I'd attach a 'Related' picture.....

It's a photo' of my Dad during his service with the R.A.F at his Home-Base of RAF-Wickenby, a famous Lancaster base in Lincolnshire which is a neighbouring base to both where 'Phantom of the Ruhr' currently resides, plus next to where the original 'Grand-Slam' bombers were based.

The (back of) photo' is stamped 4th June 1950, either the date the pic' was taken, or (maybe) developed.

Either way, it shows the size of the 'Grand-Slam' to good effect.

I've put out another of him at the same base, on 'Guard-Duty', holding his Lee-Enfield .303 Rifle.......

Note the 'Fixed-Bayonet' (he was 19 yrs old in both pic's, at RAF-Wickenby).

Wish I'd've picked up the Corgi version, when it was just £39 & everyone was griping about the abscence of the front turret 'spoiling' it's looks (lol).

Our Dads would be the same age Hornchurch, My Dad was doing Nation Service in Germany in '50. He was in the 5th RTR so Ive got a few snaps of his tank crew posing in front of a Centurion

Nice Lanc photos JP, good to see a shot of that Earthquake bomb......the world's 1st WMD??

dilli - you'll have to post those pix guy !!!!!!!!!!! (even if it does start a new thread on the Armour section ! lol)

I LOVE Centurions, so I'd be very keen to see 'em.....as I'm sure would some of the other guys on the Forum.

Back to the subject......

It's amazing how differently coloured the actual 'Grand-Slam' in 1950 looks from it's Corgi counterpart (slung under the model !!!!!!!!)

One thing intrigues me........there can't have been that many 'Slams' made or produced.... & whilst the one in my Dad's picture was still on active charge with the RAF , I'd imagine it would have been de-commisioned during the next year/18 months ??????? (certainly as technology moved on & the RAF had a surplus of wartime munitions).

BTW, the photo's of the model are nice - makes a change to see "YZ*S" in someone's collection.
