Corgi Dragon and His Tail

Question: is the nose/fuselage art on this model all pad printed, water-slide decal, or combination? What are your thoughts about this model?

Re: Corgi Dragon and His Tail

Elmer,

I just looked at mine and I believe that the plane art is pad printed. I didn't see that clear film you see around decals. I really like this model and find the art work very colorful. It is my only late model B-24 and I'm keeping it safely stored in its box. If you can get one for a reasonable price that you can afford, I'd say go for it.

Re: Corgi Dragon and His Tail

I have seen of these close up and it looked pad printed to me.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

It's pad-printed for sure -- mine, which I sold when I got the FM version, had a couple scrapes in the artwork and it was clearly paint. I prefer the FM version... It doesn't the nose join/gap possibilities and there's that bizarre black radome on the top. And, while it may be historically accurate that the artwork is on one side only, I actually like the fact that FM did it on both -- give you more display options to showcase the artwork. But I certainly understand for many if this is a deal breaker -- size as well.

I can't tell if the FM's is sticker or not, if it is -- it's the best sticker work I've ever seen.

Re: Corgi Dragon and His Tail

Since it's not limited, some collectors may tell you to pass. However, you can find these fairly cheap on E-bay. I picked one up and am happy with it...except for the fact that I broke the bottom ball turrett and have yet to find a good way to fix it.

Re: Corgi Dragon and His Tail

The Corgi model was obviously based on the Collins Foundation aircraft, which was only painted on the starboard side. Does anybody have a photo of the port side of the original aircraft? The Collins aircraft was painted by projecting a color slide onto it at night in the open air. Quite a feat as it meant situating the projector and aircraft in exactly the same precise location each time it was being worked on.

It's almost %100 certain that the real bird only had the artwork on one side. All pictures and paintings of it that I have seen of the real deal only show the starboard side, so there must be a reason for that. And I can't see them realistically painting that intricate artwork on both sides in the middle of a war. We had a thread on this a while back but I couldn't find it right now.

I found a link on line at that time, too, from a former pilot of the Collings bird that said the real plane only had the artwork on one side -- based on his interviews of the crew.

Be great to see a photo of the real bird's port side.

Re: Corgi Dragon and His Tail

Actually here is the thread:

Pics: FM "Bombzilla" B-24

Also, it seems the Corgi artwork is a blend of paint and sticker, see my pics/notes in the above thread for reference.

That might be true...I was looking at my friends Corgi "Dragon and his Tail" B-24 and it does look like a decal around the cockpit area
but near the bombay doors they seemed to be pad printed tampo in that area.
That was another thing as you said in a earlier post you didn't think the nose art was on both sides the real B-24...I have searched
every where and came up empty on trying to find it on both sides.

Thanks for that clarification, Pappy. Yes, it appears the dragon head is a decal, based on the picture of the Corgi model which you posted in the other thread.

Will someone please post the serial number/tail number from the Corgi model? Thanks.
