Thumbs up My New Addition - Corgi Doolittle B-25

Just got a new plane delivered yesterday - a Corgi Doolittle Raid B-25! Have to say, this is one sweet piece of diecast. I've loved the B-25 ever since I was a kid and I read "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". I remember building a Revell B-25 model kit and a Revell model of the USS Hornet with the 16 little B-25s lined up on the flight deck. A real trip down memory lane.

The story of this particular acquisition is a funny one. I was browsing ebay a week ago and on a whim I did a search for "Corgi B-25." Suddenly this bird shows up with a start price of $35.00. Thought it was a mistake but it turns out the seller is from New Zealand. Seems there was an earthquake in NZ around Christmas and this plane (from his private collection) got damaged. Sadly it fell off a shelf, broke one of the main gear struts and both antennae and got a few dings from other falling debris. Well being a plane lover, he fixed it up as best as he could. He has since decided to liquidate his collection and decided to sell this plane hoping it would go to a good home where it would be appreciated. I took a chance and sure enough, I won it! Shipping was more than I'd like to pay, but $37.00 wasn't really that bad. I made a few small fixes (added a radio antenna, repainted a few dings, and re glued the gear strut) and voilą, a spanking nice early war B-25!

I bought one when the Corgi B-25s first came out. Haven't put it on display yet, but your pictures may cause me to make space for the Doolittle Raider now that I've seen how good it looks. Thanks for the pictures.

That has to be one of the better looking Corgi B-25s. Nice new addition you have there.

I've always wondered, do the machine guns look like machine guns, or painted broomsticks (in keeping with historical accuracy)?

Machine guns. Personally, I like it better this way. Looks like an early war B-25 which appeals to me more than a pure "Doolittle Raider". As a collector, I'm generally not focused on a pilot or plane's specific history. I tend to use aircraft type and livery as my main criteria for buying a model. I guess one could easily replace the guns with stretched sprue plastic guns to get the "broom stick" look. Would not be too hard to do.

Re: My New Addition - Corgi Doolittle B-25

Sweet looking bird you got there HotTrap! How large are the Corgi B-25s? I've got a FM 1/48 B25 and it is freakin huge. I'm just curious as to the difference as I've been thinking about adding a Corgi B 25.

Re: My New Addition - Corgi Doolittle B-25

Sorry to hear about the damage it looks as if you did a great job spiffing it up.

I’m jealous because the wavy line separating the O. drab and the light grey on mine does not line up nearly as nice as your does were the nose section meets the body, consider yourself very lucky.

Looks like you got a good deal on a nice plane that could be repaired rather than ending up in a kids toybox.
