Corgi Sunderland (48801)

I just received an MIB Corgi Sunderland (48801) which was the first release of the model in 1999. What I thought was odd about this first release was how Corgi mounted the model on the stand for "in-flight" display. The stand arm has a solid point (I won't say nipple) to which you attach the plug which fits into the bottom of the model. The weird thing is that the plug comes in two separate pieces for assembly (and you get two pairs of each side in the box!). My only other Sunderland was the "Black Peter" version (which I stupidly sold a few years ago) which didn't have this type of set-up.

I'm sure glad Corgi went past this phase quickly.

BTW, the model is nice too!

I have a Victor and one of my EE Lightnings with the same stand set up,..... horrible.

Really the Lightnings? I don't recall that but the Vulcan is the same as are the 144 Lancasters I know.

I think it works surprisingly well really. I have the Plymouth Sunderland...

Glad you like it!

This type of stand set-up was used prior to the AA numbered range coming out. Note your model number is 48801.

I have the same model B6, the stand must have been designed by a rice wine imbiber. My model fell off the stand on two occasions. I corrected it by using the stand from AA30003 Douglas C47 'Dakota'.

which has a tapered block mount. If you feel it's worth it, buy the 'Dakota'. It's a cheap way (the model is selling cheaply) of preserving your Sunderland.CHEERS!!!!!

CC, my photo "skills" are just not up to par when compared to the likes of Tricatus or PappyB. With that in mind, here's a link to the pics of this model from Tri's site: Sunderland

In his pic of the molded box insert (where the model is stored in the box) you can see the weird mount and the four black sections which form the plug into the model.

While impractical, it is a real shame the model isn't in 1:72 scale as it would look right at home with my collection of Coastal Command heavies.

They did a good job on the beaching gear on this one, wish the beaching gear on their Catalina was as good (Missing the tail gear).
