Re: Corgi Sunderland (48801)

I have the same model B6, the stand must have been designed by a rice wine imbiber. My model fell off the stand on two occasions. I corrected it by using the stand from AA30003 Douglas C47 'Dakota'.

which has a tapered block mount. If you feel it's worth it, buy the 'Dakota'. It's a cheap way (the model is selling cheaply) of preserving your Sunderland.CHEERS!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion Swoop. I have mine displayed on its wheels as that stand has a real bad case of the wobblies. It does not inspire confidence at all. So I may snag a C-47 for its base if a good deal presents itself (since I don't normally collect the 144 scale). I have only bought a model once to use its base on another (that would be to use the base of the BAE Hawk on my Swordfish models as it allows them to be displayed in flight with the torpedo).

Try using a Legends stand. I use one when I display Black Peter wheels up.

Re: Corgi Sunderland (48801)

I have Black Peter, never will use that stand.

When I bought my copy of this model they were plentiful and very cheap on Ebay. After having it a year or so I sold it for practically nothing as I wanted a different version (really want the Norwegian version). Now they appear to go for good money when you see them at all (at least from what I have seen on Ebay in the past several months).

In regard to the stand, BP has the "normal" stand you expect, but the model I had always wanted to be in a dive or a climb - never in straight and level flight. So it sat on its wheels too. I just don't think a plug stand is really the best way to display this model as it CG just doesn't lend itself well to the stand.

Good idea! I didn't know they had a Legends version of the Sunderland. I checked Tri's site and it isn't a bad looking model either (this is like the Legends FAA Swordfish in that it isn't all the different than the AA version of the model - except in price). Thanks Smartd.

True enough, mine flies straight and level. Don't have a Herc or Wellington wheels down do you? That stand will work.

Re: Corgi Sunderland (48801)

This type of stand set-up was used prior to the AA numbered range coming out. Note your model number is 48801.

Thanks ZS. Interesting to see the change isn't it? I wonder if they changed it in response to complaints?

Some of the earlier C-130s have this same type stand and suffer from the same problem. Over time, the pieces tend to wear out and the planes start to roll and pitch every which way!

I admit the original stand pitched the model every which way. Not the best of designs. However, does the Legends stand accomodate the body insert of your model.?....It wont bank like it did before. With the block insert, but, it doesn't fall of the stand either. Should you take a liking to other 48 series, the same situation will apply.
