Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

...Pappy, we've had this discussion before...and I just wonder if they got out of the business from sheer embarrassment...

Thanks for posting the pictures, Celt. Looks like a nice model. Are the rivets/fasteners pad printed a la HM's Spitfire, or are they engraved?

For what it is worth (and probably not much) I posted in another thread a recent e-mail reply I received to an enquiry about future AeroArt models. The company rep replied that they are working on toolings and want to release aluminum models (1:48 scale).

Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

Landing gear fixed in the down position on this one, wires continue to be a mystery.

Perhaps this is a quality control 'snafu'; the designers were thinking that they would have an optional position landing gear, but forgot to remove those wired hinges!!

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!

Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

Folks, my best 'guess' for those strange, hinged wires behind the landing gear recesses is that those wires are used to hold the landing gear in a retracted position. I saw plenty of P-51's come in for repairs at the warbird museum when I worked there about 11 years ago and I cannot remember ever seeing any wires/rods behind those recesses and I had the privelege of seeing many P-51D's up close and personal.

...and when the hydraulic pressure bleeds off, the gear slowly lowers...so did the designers of the model visited a rebuild shop, and seeing a brace to keep the gear from falling all the way down, include it in the model thinking it was part of an operational aircraft? The mind boggles!

The rivets are both printed and engraved. About that second paragraph, why would they do that?
(1) Why 1/72
(2) Why aluminum
(3) You mean they are still there, have a cust rep, and actually reply to emails? Wow!

Nice to see there is another company out there with real customer service.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Check out this thread:

AUTOart (AEROart) 1:48 P-51, Spitfire Mk.V, Me109E, Zero

I can't answer your questions, but I did pot the e-mail reply that was sent to me in the above thread. Perhaps it will shed some light on your questions.

Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

Thanks for all the responses to my query on the Aero Art P-51D. All in all sounds like they are not worth picking up- too many things wrong with them- unless I really love one of the liveries.
