Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

IMHO, Aeroart made the best version, given canopy shape, nose shape, assembly, and gear. However, there were two strange wires hanging from under the wings...never could figure that out. I bought these way back, and was very disappointed when Aeroart backed out of the business.

And they also put the insignia on the tops/bottoms of both wings........d'oh! (Nice pics!)

...Pappy, we've had this discussion before...and I just wonder if they got out of the business from sheer embarrassment...

Yeah, I know -- but I was pointing it out for CC's benefit as I believe that thread was on MH I, so I thought it was wise to point it out again -- first I remember hearing about strange wires under the wings though I think! Makes we want to get one of them for curiosity

Maybe this will satisfy; the wires are just behind the wheel wells-- also note the detail in the wheel wells and around the intake. Nice diecast model work. And I forgot to mention, the flaps work, as well as the rudder and elevators; they are easy to forget because they work flawlessly and fit perfectly. Oh, and the gear is fixed (note the tread).

First thoughts are that they look like some sort of stand mount??

What stand did it come with??

Ooops!

Wires are a complete mystery to me. Do they come out or are they like a permament fixture?

No stand. It comes packed in a styrofoam box, with instructions not to try and close the gear! Anyway, I thought perhaps Aeroart had the impression the P-51D had some type of aerials in that position.

Stands, aerials, what else...?

Re: 1/72nd Corgie P-51"Beaten like a rented Mule"

Folks, my best 'guess' for those strange, hinged wires behind the landing gear recesses is that those wires are used to hold the landing gear in a retracted position. I saw plenty of P-51's come in for repairs at the warbird museum when I worked there about 11 years ago and I cannot remember ever seeing any wires/rods behind those recesses and I had the privelege of seeing many P-51D's up close and personal.

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!

Landing gear fixed in the down position on this one, wires continue to be a mystery.
