Using Existing Corgi Molds To Best Effect

One of the things that Corgi's new owners may be considering is using its existing aircraft molds to issue models with new and more salable schemes. Obviously, the JU-88's potential in this area has barely been touched and the same could be said for the Wellington, Mosquito, JU-52, ME-262, FW-190A, and a number of others. In my opinion, Corgi's BF-109 molds could be used to turn out a host of exciting new liveries, including Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian and other satellite birds. By installing a new canopy on the BF-109E, one could even make a convincing, if not totally accurate, Spanish Civil War version and the same could be said for the JU-87B. Even the redoubtable Hurricane could pose as a Yugoslav fighter and this is also the case for the BF-109E---again with a new canopy to make it look like an E-1 or E-3.

What do you guys think? Am I going off the deep end or is this a realistic possibility?

Re: Using Existing Corgi Molds To Best Effect

Anything is possible.

Everything you mentioned sounds good, but at the moment I'll be happy if Corgi's new owners decide to continue the AA range at all. If it does continue, these Hornby fellas sound kind of cagey. They like the limited runs, so the more obscure stuff might be possible. So, no, you're not going off the deep end... yet. I'll let you know if/when that happens.

Re: Using Existing Corgi Molds To Best Effect

I hope you are proved correct Epapazian.

There is plenty of life left in some of those molds.
The 109 as you say has lots of possibilities and is a very good mold, shame not to do more.

I just sit here and think of all those P40s still to be done, but I admit I suffer just a little from Tunnel Vision.

Re: Using Existing Corgi Molds To Best Effect

How about melting down the molds and starting all over!

No, that won't happen.
What happens if they are lost during the move!

A possibility but not likely.

What happens if the molds for the planes are sold to Hobby Master and they only keep the buses, trucks and cars which fit with the trains.

Definitely a possibility

Re: Using Existing Corgi Molds To Best Effect

I would like to see Corgi expand their line of Bf 109Es. Spanish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Swiss and Yugoslav would be great additions. I would also like to modified canopy to represent the earlier Bf 109E-1 thru E-3 model. Corgi already has a pretty good Bf 109E mold, and quite a few possible paint schemes left.

Here one I would like to see.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Would like more EE Lightnings, Hunters, Vulcan, Victor. The list of the models that they could re-do is endless

Is there any chance that you might get hired as a product advisor for Corgi?
