Hornby to buy Corgi

Just on the DAF BBC NEWS | Business | Hornby to buy Corgi in £7.5m deal Hornby are buying Corgi. This is very good news as it puts all the "classic" British names ,Hornby model railways,Scalectric,Airfix,Humbrol and Corgi under one roof.Hornby have kept the main Airfix researchers etc(Trevor Snowden) and let them get on with it releasing what has been wanted for years and seriously improving the standard of new models. If they follow suit with Corgi the announced releases will arrive and the planned progamme will continue and be enhanced.Things can only get better especially with Hornbys distribution system.

Great news & I am sure most of us will breath a collective sigh of relief to know the brand is now in capable hands.

Well, if nothing else the mould quality should improve. I sure hope this doesn't mean another year of "settling in" though.

Now we just need to see some models get released.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

"Hornby said it was buying the Corgi Classics brand, tooling and intellectual property rights from Corgi International Ltd. of Hong Kong."

What exactly does the above mean? They buying it all or not?

Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

The members of the UK forum are starting to ask the same question. Opinions are divided and there is speculation about the low sales price if all of Corgi is involved. In time all of this should become clearer, but my take is that this is a positive development for military diecast collectors.

Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

My first reaction to the news was that it will be a great teaming of some good companies.
Certainly Airfix and Corgi could work together there should be a good overlap of skills.
Hornby have better marketing than Corgi ever had and Hornby have better distribution also ( I am only commenting on the UK situation).

After thinking about it a while I wonder if Hornby have the money to invest in Corgi. £7.5 million is stated as the price of the buy out by Hornby.
Hornby was in a desperate way until some one stepped in and bought them out.

Who owns Hornby?

Its definitely a wait see scenario, but lets hope that this is the start of a new and reinvigorated Corgi.
It was Corgi that started me off with this hobby so I wish them every success.

God Bless America.

I agree. The signs may be good...on paper at least. But it's too early to tell yet.
