Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

Kind of worried about seeing some of the projected models like the Bf 110 and the Blenheim Mk.IV.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

If the sale doesn't include the production facilities then the release schedule we saw a few weeks ago is toast.

Corgi don't have their own production facilities anyway which I think was part of the problem.Take a look here News & Events - Hornby it will tell you a bit about Hornby.

Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

This will link you to the BBC website regarding this Corgi/Hornby deal.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7376855.stmHornby has been in the model train business since Pontious was a pilot. Not as well known in the USA since they concentrate on British locomotives, rolling stock etc. Hopefully, they have much more marketing expertise which could help Corgi to improve its image.

Unhappy Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

I've looked at the threads here and on the UK forum. Hornby reads like a "mass" marketing firm. They want to sell tens of thousands of SKU's of items taking advantage of pop culture to sell to the younger set. That sounds like reduced marketing and introductions of aircraft diecast. I can envision a deluge duriing the holidays of "Snoopie on a Spad" type offerings. The question for us is, will there be any releases of "real" aircraft (WW II Propeller) and if so how many. Will half a dozen releases a year of stuff we want from them, be enough to keep them relevent? If Dragon has really exited the 1/72 scale aircraft market, IXO's 1/72 products are too cruddy to be considered seriuosly, Gemini looks dead, and Witty releases too few types, WHERE ARE WE GOING TO GET OUR STUFF FROM???????? Sure, it will keep all out wallets in good shape if we have only a half a dozen 1/72 WW II propeller diecast models come out each year, but looking back, that means the past few years will be considered the aircraft diecast golden era. The world of collectible diecast has just changed. Looks like I'm going to have time and money I used to spend on models to build all those display cases to house the models I've got stashed in my closet. Bummer.

[quote=dboulais;183467]WHERE ARE WE GOING TO GET OUR STUFF FROM????????

We had better give all our support to Hobby master.

It puzzles me somewhat that Hornby bought Corgi , as we all know Corgi has no factories of its own and commisions out all the manufacturing.
I
it would make more sense to me if Corgi had a factory.

I wonder if Hornby thinks that some of its products would sell as diecast and that combined with Corgi would make owning its own manufacturing facility financial sense.

Then again am I just grasping at straws?

Re: Hornby to buy Corgi

Hornby are far from a mass marketing firm selling pop culture items to the young, yes they sell Harry Potter and Thomas the Tank engine trains but their main market is OO gauge scale model railways (around $200 for a locomotive), then they bought Scalectric slot racing then last year Airfix models and Humbrol paints pushing one of the best catalogues of kits for years with LOTS of new moulds in the offing .Buying Corgi diecast makes sense as it means now they have ALL the well known UK collectable brands in their control and if they combine the Airfix and Corgi aviation research things can only improve.Take a look through their websites.

Yes they sold them in 2006 to a former employee.
I think it going to be a long time before we see any new planes.
First thing Hornby will do is go through the books and save whats been profitable.
Anything marginal will be on hold until everything is sorted which means nothing new this year except for whats already in production or on the boat.

I hope they follow through with the models that previously were advertised.
