Re: 2008 Corgi Release Schedule

Looks like Corgi is ignoring what collectors want again. In the new 2008 release schedule quote:- " AA37204 Handley Page Halifax B.III - Friday the 13th - Preserved at Elvingdon" TBCI thought we had gone through pointing out that the preference was for the OPERATIONAL Friday the 13th markings. All the signals from people who had talked to Corgi management indicated that they agreed that the Elvington replica is incorrectly marked. Corgi based its markings on a set of photos especially taken outside at Elvington. Neither the Museum staff nor the photographer, whom I know quite well, were aware of the error. If anyone had bothered to check with the Secretary of 158 Squadon Association; he holds an amazing collection of photos of squadron aircraft and crews. In addition, he has the unit records and details of individual aircrew careers who served on the squadron. For those who are interested in 158's history, he is mounting an exhibition at Sewerby Hall, near Bridlington from June to the end of September. Lissett is about five miles south of the Hall. The runways and main buildings are gone, but some smaller huts etc still remain. There is an excellent Memorial to 158 Sqdn. in Lissett's church yard. While I appreciate Corgi's dilema and its efforts to recover as soon as possible, they do seem to lack good internal communication regarding what will be produced. It just needs one of the newcomers to step up into producing multi-engined aircraft models to really shake them up.Meanwhile, I'm planning to cancel my pre-order until I see what is actually released.Jetfan

Re: 2008 Corgi Release Schedule

This was posted in the Flying Mules Newsletter

There has been much speculation over Corgi's future after its recent acquisition by Hornby, a well-known British owned company. We believe that the acquisition is primarily good news for Corgi and for Corgi collectors in particular. Hornby is British-owned, but they do have a strong presence in the US as well as a history of acquiring and revitalizing struggling hobby companies.

The bad news is that the acquisition will mean further delays on the entire product line, including the remainder of the 2007 catalog as well as the first half of the 2008 catalog. We'd like to ask our customers to accept our apologies in advance, and to bear with us as the new owners complete the details of the acquisition. We strongly believe that after the dust settles, the new Corgi will emerge stronger and better than ever before.

Nothing until next summer!

No Friday 13th Halifax or Silver Halifax.

No, the copy in the Mule newsletter did not say that.

Re: 2008 Corgi Release Schedule

This reminds me of the discussion on another thread about whether the old Corgi should take a sabbatical and give it a rest for a year or so, as a way to regroup and come up with better marketing and product selection strategies. I was against this, but now that it's happening anyway, due to the unexpected production snafu and Corgi's acquisition by Hornby, a year's delay seems like a good thing. There's plenty of new diecast product for us to digest---especially from Hobby Master, Century Wings and Altaya--- so waiting for Corgi to deliver its C-47, Blenheim, BOB Ju-88, rocket-armed Typhoon and BF-110C until this fall or next spring doesn't bother me, assuming that the new owners really intend to revitalize the AA line.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Good things come to those who wait.

Besides, this gives me a chance to catch up on some of those "second tier" models on my wish list. Perhaps I'll take the plunge and snag Faith, Hope, & Charity from Perry's.

That and it will save on some wear and tear of my wallet.
