I'm intrigued by Corgi's Mig-21 in Indian livery (1:72), but how do their's compare with Hobby Master's Mig-21's, of which I have two?

| Re: How do Corgi's Mig-21's compare to Hobby Master's? I like the HM Mig-21 a little better plus it has the correct looking canopy on it. Corgi is not bad looking either...They have a few schemes i may get down the road when i get my HM Phantoms. JP | |||||||||||||

Thanks. Actually, I just looked at the pics of the Indian one at The Flying Mule, I forgot they had those there. It looks a little plain, but that might just be because of the garish colors. The two Vietnamese ones look sharp. I'm not a stickler for extreme historical detail, like having the ordnance on the wrong pylon (unless it's something real obvious), I mainly go for attractive paint schemes and such. Edit: Also, are HM's and Corgi's Mig-21's made from the same mould? I thought I read that somewhere. That means there shouldn't be too much of a difference, right? Edit #2: I see what you mean re the canopy.

| Re: How do Corgi's Mig-21's compare to Hobby Master's? I actually own two (Vietnamese and Indian) made by Hobby Master for Corgi MiG-21s as so far I'm unimpressed with HM's choices for its own MiG-21s. In person, Indian MiG-21 looks authentic to me, and I didn't find the colors to be garish. But hey, it was 1970s. What hasn't been mentioned so far is that zuni rocket loadout is actually correct for this particular MiG-21 squadron because it was primarily engaged in landing strip busting duties using these unguided rockets during Indian-Pakistani War of 1971. | Re: How do Corgi's Mig-21's compare to Hobby Master's? Corgi's "Predators" series were all from HobbyMaster moulds. The main difference (aside from the packaging) is that the Corgi product has no wash on the panel lines, where with HM a model may or may not get the wash treatment. | |||||||||||||

| Well, I am going to say it, I like the Corgi a lot more than the HM on the Mig-21, Nice clean birds, same mold same canopy, Just none of that panel line wash thing HM does, that looks ok on some planes and horrible on others. Same stand even. Also if your into boxes or info,. Corgi wins hands down with very nice quality and safe packaging as well as included info cards on Plane / Pilot / Squadron. I like em a lot. | Re: How do Corgi's Mig-21's compare to Hobby Master's? tfm's photos show all of the HM releases as having a fairly elaborate air data probe with a multipronged tip, while Corgi's Vietnamese and Indian jets have a much cruder probe, looking more like a telescoping cylinder. I'm not an expert on MiGs, so I can't say whether Corgi's aircraft look like they ought to, but the photos do suggest that at least some physical differences between the HM and corgi molds (if that's the right word) exist. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How do Corgi's Mig-21's compare to Hobby Master's? Guys I think you will find that the basic tooling for both H/M and the Predators are one and the same but there are different canopy's, fuselage spines, probes and tail fins so that different marks of the Mig could be made and the finish with or without wash has been left to the company's to decide. If you put the Soviet Humpback(Late Version) version next to say one of the Vietnam birds( early version) you can see how they differ. . | |||||||||||||
