Thumbs up Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

I'd be in favor of the A-20.

The A-20 would be a fantastic subject, but I would rather see HM to make it, because I'd notably like a Russian A-20 and a French DB-7...

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

Corgi somehow have never been any good at marketing,

Their website is dreadful and they just dont have enough outlets for their products and they have no contact with their buying public.

They need to work much more on their marketing and push hard to get the products into the market place.
There are no Corgi outlets around my area at all, I never see any advertising by Corgi.

Its very sad that a company like Corgi that has produced so many great models cannot seem to get a grip with the basics of marketing and selling their products.
Sticking with a few outlets like MZ is not the way to go, Corgi should push hard to get a major outlet like Tesco (UK equivalent of Walmart) or any of the big high street stores.
Heck Tesco could move more models in a day than MZ could in 6 months.

I really hope that Corgi can rebuild itself and come out fighting, I like most of their products and have supported them despite their apparent lack of interest in their loyal customers.

Well said Jim, I totally agree with all of your comments. Corgi's PR machine is a crock of & their ability to market such a great product is a crying shame

I sent my coupons in for a free Halifax late last year with a covering letter and all of my contact details - not even an email to say "sorry - you missed out". A couple of times i've emailed them with suggestions for new releases, again no reply. Is this arrogance, incompetence or a lack of basic relationship skills? Probably all 3.... I hope they lift their game - I will continue to buy their products but imagine how good they could be if they tried harder!!

Take it out and play with it

Russian A-20 or French DB-7, sounds good to me. Need more aircraft in Soviet and French paint schemes.

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

One would think that Hobby Master's decision to do a Beaufighter in 1:72nd scale would be another wake up call for Corgi's executives, who, one suspects, are probably hunkered down even deeper in their command bunker as enemy shells rain down above them. This is a plane that Corgi should have made several years ago, but now it's been preempted and HM can make new inroads among Corgi's core base of UK collectors. What's next? Already, HM has a 1:48th scale Spitfire XIV. What happens if it adds a Tempest V or a Firefly---more planes that one might have expected Corgi to put out?

Assuming that Corgi isn't run out of the military diecast field by HM---which looms as a distinct possibility---- it needs to respond aggressively, first, by securing a reliable production facility and second, by going where its chief competitor is reluctant to follow. As I commented earlier on this thread, one avenue would be to go big----turn out a high quality, 1:72nd scale B-29, for example, or a DO-200 or a Betty. And fill in some other Luftwaffe gaps before HM beats you to it---a DO-17Z or DO-217, would be a good start, and perhaps a ME-410.

I'd hate to see the military diecast market dominated by one marketer---even a responsive, quality conscious one like Hobby Master. Competition breeds greater creativity than monopoly. With Dragon dropping out and others stalling or lagging behind, I hope that Corgi can right its badly listing ship---before it's too late.

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

Corgi have been listening since the middle of last year that's why the first half catalogue was the best for years if they can get the manufacturing flowing it will certainly give collectors a boost.I did the research for the 22 Sqn Sea King due for release (apparently all sold by pre-order)and I have provided the details for two models in the second half , if you know my main interest you know what sort of aircraft they will be , one of them will go very well in the US market. Also shown at one of the Toy Shows and pictured in a diecast magazine is a 1/72nd TSR.2 which is a very brave choice but if Airfix could sell 20,000 kits of it in a couple of weeks it certainly should be a good seller. If they can get over the problems at the minute I think they can regain the lead .

It would be nice if they could jump start their production. I am looking forward to their Bf 110 and Shuttleworth Gladiator. Pretty much any of the Dornier models would be a nice addition and the Me 410 would be another great suggestion. I hope the folks in Corgi come up out of the trenches soon.

I am not at liberty to say much, however I've heard some interesting rumors about Corgi's plans beyond the first half of 2008, which, if true, indicate a major shift in focus. You are right. One of the planes being planned will be very interesting to U.S. collectors.

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

Lets see what would excite the American collector? And I'm just spitballing here.

1/144th scale
B-36
B-47
B-50
B-58

1/72nd scale
F-105
F-111
Vigilante

Now if they do attempt the B-29 in 1/72nd scale, I would be amazed.

In 1/144th, definitely the B-58. In 1/72nd, I'd go for a B-57B. Lots of nice Viet Nam camo, Night Intruder, and natural metal finishes for that one.
