Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

It definitely packed quite a bit of fire power. About 14 years back I remember seeing a Fire Bomber version of one of these flying over Las Vegas. I wonder what happened to those that were converted to Fire Bomber Tanker roles.

Do you mean after 2004 when the Forest Service said no more contracts to fly? Should be several candidates for restoration and flying displays........trying to
recall why the oval engine cowlings were rotated 90 degrees from the B-24 design. I think the tail is the same as the one XB-24N ?

I think the PB4Y were grounded even earlier than that. It may have been as early as 2002. Change in engine cowl shape could have something to do with the PB4Y not being equiped with superchargers.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

2002 would be correct as the PB4Y wing loss crash was in July 2002. Ironically it came one month after a C-130 lost both wings serving as a fire retardant drop aircraft.
The lack of supercharger for PB4Y sounds correct for the cowling change, Ah, fairly warm and no oxygen masks for Privateer crewmen. Oh. wait...lots of ocean.

I remember seeing some footage of the C-130 loosing its wings, pretty scary stuff. Privateer would make for a slick looking model, all those gun positions.

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

Corgi somehow have never been any good at marketing,

Their website is dreadful and they just dont have enough outlets for their products and they have no contact with their buying public.

They need to work much more on their marketing and push hard to get the products into the market place.
There are no Corgi outlets around my area at all, I never see any advertising by Corgi.

Its very sad that a company like Corgi that has produced so many great models cannot seem to get a grip with the basics of marketing and selling their products.
Sticking with a few outlets like MZ is not the way to go, Corgi should push hard to get a major outlet like Tesco (UK equivalent of Walmart) or any of the big high street stores.
Heck Tesco could move more models in a day than MZ could in 6 months.

I really hope that Corgi can rebuild itself and come out fighting, I like most of their products and have supported them despite their apparent lack of interest in their loyal customers.

God Bless America.

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

For the record I started the PB4Y-1 and -2 discussion. Now that we have that settled, ho hard would it be for Corgi to re-do a mold to make this one? It sure would be nice to have a USN heavy from WW2. A simple re-paint for the -1 would be easy enough. Come on Corgi, show us what you've got!

Well, how about everyone make a point to send an e-mail daily to bombard them with your requests... that would get the point across.

PB4Y would definitely have to be a new mold. Engine nacelles, tail assembly and probably some major tweaking with the fusealge too. It would make for a fairly standout model though.

Well, Corgi could stsrt out with a PB4Y-1 Liberator B-24D variant or a later version with front turret. Some pretty color schemes to be had..............

Re: Some Ideas For Corgi's Brain Trust

A -1 would be simple enough, and welcomed by many. Who wouldn't want one in their collection. The -2 would require work, but it is possible if the will is there.
