Shangri-La, and the missing aerial

Okay, I've searched the forum, and I can't find any indication that this has already been brought up, and it makes me wonder: Am I off my rocker for thinking Gentile's P-51B "Shangri-La" ought to have the aerial? (I apologize if this issue has been fully hashed out here, or across the pond, already.) I haven't seen any pictures where the aerial is missing from the actual aircraft, and I've seen plenty with the aerial prominently standing at attention, including a shot of the airframe post-crash. And yet, Corgi's example is notably bare (and clearly intentionally so) on this count.

Re: Shangri-La, and the missing aerial

The P-51B with Malcomb hood had a thin metal whip antenna. The bird-cage canopy had a mast. Corgi left the mast off.

Re: Shangri-La, and the missing aerial

America's Hundred Thousand shows three types of antenna on the P-51B. A conventional mast and a thiner rod mast on the birdcage canopy. A thin whip antenna mounted farther aft at an angle on Malcomb hood. Shangri-La had the thiner rod, so I guess Corgi decided it was too small a diameter to see in scale.

I never noticed the two different masts on the birdcage before.

He did do a job on this one, and real lucky to have lived through it too.

Re: Shangri-La, and the missing aerial

Why not use a thicker piece of brass or steel wire? EDM or drill a small hole, glue the wire piece in and paint it. Could do something similar with the Malcomb hood versions also...
