Cool What if CMC decided.......

Any of you gentlemen familiar with the quality of the products made by the German/Chinese firm CMC?
I own about half a dozen of their diecast car models; scale 1/18. They cost about 190 Euro's.
Can you imagine what kind of aircraft models they would be able to produce with their skills and Q/C!!
Right now this is only daydreaming on my part, but now that we can't expect any 1/32 models from Corgi nor GMP(1/35)
maybe it's time for a new player on the diecast field.

Great idea for those with the dough. And there are a lot of high-rollers in the airliner end of the hobby, which is evident by the popularity of the more expensive 1/200 and 1/250 scales.

Re: What if CMC decided.......

Now,wouldn't you like to own a spitfire or p51 with a well detailed merlin engine.
Yes it would come at a price but I paid 170 Euro for a 1/32 mossie just a few weeks ago
and I still like it but detailwise it's a far cry from what I get from CMC for almost 200 Euro.
GMP has failed and it looks like Corgi also lost interest but I still believe there is a 'niche' for
highly detailed aircraft models for around 200 Euro.

Re: What if CMC decided.......

I'd love to own a select few "premium" aircraft models -- and the Spitfire would definitely be one of 'em -- but with my limited display space and budget, the model would have to be 1:48 scale and cost no more than $100-$150. (Ah, how the mighty dollar has fallen: that's €64-€96 at today's exchange rate.) I wonder what other members' interest is in premium models... Scale and price points?

I agree with you on the issue of scale. My top limit, space-wise, is 1:48th, but I'd be game for a core group of really high quality diecasts at a premium price---say peaking at about $150 for a fighter and up to $350-400 for a four-engined job. Unfortunately, super premium models along these lines often entail very limited production runs which will probably prompt their makers to ask for much higher prices---like $700 for a P-51 and $1500 for a B-17. At this point we are no longer talking about collecting but, rather, speculating on future resale values---which is of little interest to me.

The $12,000 plus Bf-109G is a beauty. I wonder if they'll be putting that one on 99% off clearance.

I wonder how many of these puppies they actually sell.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Unhappy Re: What if CMC decided.......

If you're willing to pay $12000 per model you're turning a hobby into
an investment!
