Re: Just hit a Corgi mother lode today!

Yes its true CC those Spits were very pink indeed !

I think fortunately for the pilots the strong sun out in the Mid East soon faded the paint.
It has always made me chuckle to think that those macho guys of the SAS painted their desert vehicles pink !

God Bless America.

Re: Just hit a Corgi mother lode today!

Great find CC.

Bet a lot of our members start hanging out at museums.

That's a good thing, hoping to boost revenue for various museums, esp' if the Corgi stock ploughs money back to the collection(s).

Sounds to me Cruv' like the best deal ya got, was the Mosquito-Spitfire set, in terms of value for money???.......(although I'm not very knowledgeable about smaller Corgi stuff, as Swordfish & Lysanders aside; I don't collect the smaller stuff, generally speaking)

Really like the set because it I never had one of the Corgi Mosquitos before, and it is fine looking model.

When I was in Saudi and Kuwait, the DCU (Desert Combat Uniforms) we were issued had a tan that looked a bit pinkish too.

Yeah, EVERYONE who collects 'small' stuff seems to Rave over the Corgi 1/72 Mosquito.

I got mine by default, as I wanted the Pathfinder Lancaster (long before folks on the Brit' forum started moaning about that individual airframe numbers innaccuracies !!!!!)

I still LOVE the Lanc' & Mosquito in that set !!!!!!!

Corgi Lancaster looks pretty impressive to me. Not so sure with regards to some of the accuracy crowd on the UK forum, some of those same folks have high praise for other models that have their fare share of inaccuracies.

I agree with ya Cruv'

There are some lads on there who won't display the Pathfinder Lancaster, in shame; as it's, "inaccurate".

Daft thing is, that at EXACTLY the same time, there were other 'conventional' Pathfinder Lanc's on that very same Squadron, on that VERY SAME Airbase (Downham Market, in Norfolk - which had previously been a 218 Sqdn Stirling airbase) which WERE configured EXACTLY the same as the Corgi Pathfinder-Lancaster.

The individual airframe number that Corgi chose to represent, had annular cowlings (& so I'm told; four bladed prop's ?)

We did discuss this, back on M.H.I but, as that's now defunct, we can't 'trawl-up' the thread to go over it in detail.

I remember discussing with one of our Canadian members about (IIRC) the Nanton Lancaster that was painted up in Downham Market Pathfinder markings - one was representative of Ian Bazalgette's a/c......( can't remember off the top of my head, whether it was the Canadian Lanc' painted up on display, or the Corgi representation)

Sadly, my memory is like a sieve - so what I learned & studied 2 - 3 years ago is not clearly defined anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!

If someone can unscramble the two Lanc's involved & their respective F2* codes, I'd be grateful

It was a bit of a shocker when I first saw them sitting on the shelf. I thought it might have been a display at first, that is until I saw the price tags on them (Even more shocked by the prices). I have had some good finds in the past, but nothing like this.
