Re: Opinions Wanted: W & W have Corgi AA34406 "Jersey Jerk" working range

You can see my review of the Working Range P-51 in my thread "Tuskeegee P-51 Working Range" in the Corgi section.

If it is just the Jersey Jerk scheme you like ClassicCloseouts.com has the 1:48 Franklin Mint on sale in the clearance section for $28.99. I picked up the Big Beautiful Doll P-51 and am very pleased with it. Just enter "aircraft" in the search box, and you will find some really great deals.

Thanks for that info Sky -- I just don't know if I can go to FM for it... even at that price.

Re: Opinions Wanted: W & W have Corgi AA34406 "Jersey Jerk" working range

Displaying it without the bombs crossed my mind as well. However the working mechanism of the bombs make that theŽre fitted with a rather lange pin to hold them. When you leave them off, youšll see a hole under the holding point. I donŽt think it will be disturbing when you display the P-51 on itŽs landing gear, but if you decide to put it on the stand youŽll have to add the bombs.

Oiye! Then I'd have to paint 'em... though, I also don't like to alter the original state of my models.... there are always exceptions!

BTW -- do the wings kind of sag, as these photos on Tri's site suggest:

Or is this just barrel distortion we're seeing in the pics -- an optical illusion, so to speak... look at the top picture closely to see what I mean.

Almost bought the blue noser 48th FM "Moonbeam McSwine" ...I was very close to pulling the trigger too!

Thanks Roofie -- that does help, I've been oggling the pics but wanted to hear from someone with the actual model. Yeah, what is up with those silver bombs??? I'd probably display it "clean" anyways, and probably not on the stand... I just really like the scheme. I do so wish GMP had done it!

The working range are meant to be displayed on their stand. The corgi people warn you about that in the box.

Damn. I was hoping it was just photo distortion, but the wings on my Tuskeegee version are exactly like the wings in the photo. So yes they do sag

Really, why's that -- does it explode or something? Seems strange you can't "park it" like the other 1:32s.......

Inquiring minds want to know?

(this model is starting to sound less appealing... )

I thought the deal was that the gear on the working range planes were not actually capable of holding the model's weight and thus you can't show them sitting on their gear.

According to Corgi, the weight of the plane pressing on the gear can ruin the retracting/extending function of the plane. The gear is really flimsy to the touch....there is no locking the gear in place. The tracting mechanism keeps going and going if you keep the button depressed instead of, say, extending then stopping/locking. Would have been better, imho, if they had made it so you had to re-press the button (toggle swithch) to extend or retract the gear.
Another problem with their working range (since were critiquing it) is the electronic contacts between plane and base have are difficult to line up perfectly in order for all the mechanics to work in sync. I have to fiddle with the mounting like crazy to get the lights, prop, gear, bombs and sound to work in sync. More times than not only half the functions work at the same time on my plane....actually, I noticed the same issue at my local hobby store's plane too.
I too love the paint scheme but would have been just as happy to have this one in a non-working model instead!

p.s. I can upload pictures if you want Pappy.
