Swedish Air Force Gloster Gladiator J-8A

Here is another good looking Corgi Gloster Gladiator and that would be their AA36204 284/F, Royal Swedish Air Force Gloster Gladiator J-8A. I remember seeing a thread list for favorite Gloster Gladiator, but not one for this specific model. I picked this one up last year, because well,,,, it is a really interesting paint scheme for the Gladiator. I also like that it is equipped with skis and just like the two bladed prop. Like all the Gladiators, Corgi did a real nice job on this one, and it even comes with a snow covered diorama (Kind of looks a little like a funnel cake). Really its not that bad, just a bunch of snow and a snow covered operations shack.

That's a cool looking diorama! Perfect setting too.

Is it a 'Finn' or a 'Swede'..... ???????????????? ?

These were actually Swedish Gloster Gladiators. Following the Soviet invasion of Finland the Swedish Air Force raised a volunteer unit, Flygflottilj 19 comprised of a squadron of Harts and a fighter squadron of 12 J-8A Gladiators. The operated out of Kemi in northern Finland starting around 10 January 1940 through 13 March 1940. They flew 464 sorties and their pilots claimed ten aircraft destroyed.

The more I see of the Gladiator, the more I think you folks are onto something. It is a nice model. CC do you think we'll ever see Pattle's plane?

I love this model, unfortunately it does not come with a stand or a hole in its belly so it is not possible to display it flying over the snowy plains. Pity.

As great as your pictures are, they cannot do justice to how nice this bird is. This is one of my favorite pieces of diecast. (Along with my Apollo Recovery Chopper.)

Anything for a weird life.

That would be an excellent choice in paint schemes for Corgi to put out another Gladiator in. Kind of curious why his aircraft was not one of the first ones done.

That would have been an interesting looking display. They did do a neat job on the diorama with the tracks in the snow from the taxiing Gladiator.
