Re: How about a Soviet Hawker Hurricane?

Ah! yes a soviet hurricane, a dream that still has not come true!

Since the folks at Corgi put out a Spitfire in Soviet livery, hoping they will do the same for the Hurricane.

Thank you! Now I have to see if I can hunt one down.

CC, Waltz41 is selling one on eBay now. See his thread here..

Originally the set was $200 and well worth it!

Re: How about a Soviet Hawker Hurricane?

Corgi does make a nice looking Hawker Hurricane, and in a nice variety of Commonwealth paint schemes. How about one in livery of those used by the Soviet Union? Currently they have a Spitfire, but it would sure be nice to see a Hurricane with Soviet markings too. It would definitely add some variety to the Hawker Hurricane line up. Found some interesting photos of Soviet Hawker Hurricanes armed with two ShVAK 20mm and a pair of Beresin VB 12.7 mm machine guns in each wing as apposed to the conventional UK setup. This would make for a really unique looking model.

Wouldn't be in my collection. It would be a reminder that we assisted a future enemy. Many nations were crushed under their heel after WWII. Patton knew who not to trust. History has bore him out.
We got years of grief because of them. Their plans to rearm is in the works. Who can stop them?....I wish them a severe kick in the

Re: How about a Soviet Hawker Hurricane?

Ok lets get back to the discussion on a Soviet Hawker Hurricane. Found a couple of color palettes that look to go with the Soviet armament set up in the black and white photos.

How about this odd looking one.

Thats the great thing about this forum, you learn something new all the time.

CC , I have never seen that Hurri with the rear gun before, very interesting indeed.

They must have fitted an extra bulkhead to keep the fuselage strength intact.

Not that easy a task, I have seen the Hurri without the fabric and its quite a complex structure.

The old Hurri was beautifully made, and very strong.

God Bless America.

I had never seen that one either, kind of hoping one of the forum members might know a bit about this one. Have to do a little digging and see what turns up. I like the Hurricane too, nice blend of the old and the new.

Re: How about a Soviet Hawker Hurricane?

I don't know if I get Soviet Hurricane, and I'm a sucker for all things VVS. My grandfather hated it with a passion. According to him, early in the war it was better to deal with Soviet-made aircraft, which were arriving to the front lines, literally in kit. But at least it was easy to figure out what major parts were missing.

The issue with ex-Commonwealth Hurricanes is that they were all "second-hand" and about as gently used as the FoV Corsair Skydiver dedicated a post to. For the Soviet airforce mechanics dealing with Hurricanes was the shortest road to the penal battalion or firing squad. While structurally sound, were notoriously mechanically unreliable and poorly suited to the Eastern Front combat in terms of "paint chipper" armament. Most pilots if given a choice preferred to fly LaGG-3s over Hurries, and this fact alone should tell something.

But then again, a properly executed Soviet-"tuned" Hurricane does look appealing, but I don't think Corgi will go the extra mile required in terms of getting minute details right.

P.S. If it wasn't for my grandfather freezing his behind off in the marshes of Rzhev and everywhere in between Vyazma and Pilau, the rest of the world would still be known as the Great Third Reich, and what a lovely democratic state that would have been.

Trust the Russians to turn the Hurricane into an open cockpit two seater. What was the point of that?

Don't we have a Corgi Russian Hurricane still to come from 2007?

Artillery fire observation and correction. Take into account that this plane was from Leningrad front where the Red Army was notoriously short of equipment and custom conversions like this were quite common.

So that could possibly be a one off? At very most quite a limited production.
