Halifax "Friday the 13th"

I'm not very familiar with Halifaxes so please excuse my ignorance. In the pre-production photos on Tricatus Corgi Aviation Archive the model of "Friday the 13th" is shown without any visible bomb bay doors. Did the real "Friday" have bomb bay doors or was it somewhat open underneath like the Dambuster Lancasters? I have one of these on pre-order with my model supplier.

Thanks for any information.

Dennis

They are there, you just can't see them that well unless you have it upside down or up close.

Don't be concerned about your pre-order. It is common for Corgi to issue early prototype models that either carry incorrect or incomplete information that is either corrected or added later to final production. 'Friday the 13th' is an iconic aircraft and has undergone a great amount of historical scrutiny. I can assure you with great certainty that the model you pull out of the shiny black box will be very accurate to the WW2 original, as shown in the photos below. So what are the current glaring issues with the model shown on the Tricatus site? There are two major ones that will be corrected:
1. The rudders carry the RAF flashes and the 'F' identification that will be removed
2. The radio mast shown emerging from the canopy will not be present
Hope that gives you a bit of confidence in knowing you are going to be receiving an A-1 historical model similar to the original shown below/

Re: Halifax "Friday the 13th"

Re JPN's remarks about Friday's markings; It the latest issue of a "FlyPast" magazine supplement, Corgi has a full page ad on Museum a/c. It includes "Friday the 13th" as incorrectly shown at Elvington. I hope someone gets the message to their advertising department to check with the design committee.

The latest issue I've seen on the stands here just yesterday is January 2008. Would you be referring to February 2008? If so, I have to get a copy of that!!!

Re: Halifax "Friday the 13th"

The advert is in the Airshow supplement in the February issue. I've had a signal from the UK confirming that in spite of the advert, the corrections will be made.

Hey, that is great news! I'll keep my eyes peeled as we always get the UK mags late. Given that, we should be getting our Feb issues right about . . . . . . now!

I hear from skulking around DAF -- that indeed, Ft13th will be produced in actual service colours. I trust your signal was a direct contact. Great news, isn't it? It'll sure look super in our collections, eh? I'm sure glad you posted those photos, those so many months ago, otherwise we may have had another less-than-ideal model on our hands.
