What Will Corgi Give Us For The Second Half Of 2008?

Pretty soon now, Corgi will announce its new models for the second half of 2008. Will these reflect a new direction by the company where diecast aircraft are concerned or more of the same---a heavy focus on RAF planes? What do you guys think?

1) More of the same, featuring mostly RAF entries like the Short Sterling, Tempest, etc.

2) A radical departure, including "risky" choices like the IL-2m, Val, or MC-202.

3) A radical departure, but going after the huge U.S. market, primarily.

I would really like to go with option 2.

Judging by what the other diecast manufacturers are doing, Corgi had been pick option 2. I do hope the best for Corgi, however I fear they will continue to bank on the old tried and tested method--staying with common German and RAF birds. Their latest attempts at new molds are someone lacking (ie, P51B, etc).

Corgi really needs to step up to the plate if they intend to reclaim the Diecast throne.

I suspect Option 1 will have some bearing in the last half of 2008/first half of 2009. If they don't, there will be a riot on DAF(!!) and I'll be less than impressed.

That said, if Corgi doesn't start to buck up and pay some serious attention to the U.S. market, they are just not going to have a market, period -- as many collectors will just leave altogether. I suspect Corgi better exercise a portion of Option 3 too. In order to do this, they are going to have to do some serious investment spending in NEW and ACCURATE molds. As I see it, they have some tough decisions to make, and they better hope they are the right ones or Corgi is toast.

Just my 2˘ worth -- which ain't much!!

I think that Corgi will primarily keep on serving their "home country" market since a large part of the Fleet Air Arm section had been overgone so far. And besides, I simply cannot imagine anything else than that they´ll keep on remaining stubborn on doing mostly British aircraft. I am sooo sure that they will (e.g.) first do EF 2000´s of any RAF squadron, no matter that they just distinguish by their squadron badges... I think, I´ll wait for a GERMAN EF 2000 until hell freezes.

An Avro Vulcan in 1/72. White scheme and Black Buck Falklands version. Remember you heard it here first.

I live in hope smartd the 1:32 Mossie is on my list for the second half of this year, the US catalouge does need an injection of new castings otherwise CW & HM will bury them with the impressive new castings that thay are now issuing.
My hope is for more of the early British jets from Corgi as I can not see any of the other companies tooling up for them.

Re: What Will Corgi Give Us For The Second Half Of 2008?

We haven't had a good new medium sized aircraft for a while. As the Barton Halifax seems to have been quite popular, they could do a couple of aircraft flown by VC winners.

My first choice would be a Hampden flown by F/LT R.A.B. Learoyd of 49 Sqdn., Bomber Command's first VC, awarded for a low level attack on the Dortmund-Elms Canal.

My second choice would be a re-issue of a Wellington 1C in the colors of 75 (New Zealand) Sqdn in which Sgt. Pilot J.R. Ward won a VC on 7the July 1941 when he climbed onto the wing and put out an engine fire in flight while returning from a raid on Munster.

In 1/72nd, I'd really like to see a C-47 in D Day markings and an A-20 Boston/Havoc.

Now that sounds like a great choice. Corgi Hampden, have to buy at least two, maybe three.
