Re: What Will Corgi Give Us For The Second Half Of 2008?

JPN, I beg to differ re the lack of marking choices on the DeH 89A Rapide/Dominie. A total of 728 were built and served with the RAF, Royal Navy, RAAF and even the USAAF. They appeared in silver, full camouflage with yellow bellies; others wore Red Cross markings. USAAF aircraft were in the drab olive colors. A version sold to Morocco had a dorsal gun fitted aft of the wing. Spanish Air Force versions had bomb racks under the wings.
Aside from the variety of military markings, airline operators, both large and small, must number at least 100. A couple used in Canada were mounted on floats.
Corgi would have a wide market for a single model; I understand it was rejected because the rigging was too complicated, but since it is a larger model than the Gladiator for instance, it should be a lot easier to work with.

I had my first flight in an RAF Dominie from the Station Flight at RAF Driffield waaaaay back in 1948 as a 14 year old Air Cadet. Regulations at the time stipulated that all passengers in military a/c had to wear a harness and have the chute on their knees but not clipped on. Because it was a warm day, the pilot had his side window slightly open giving a nice breeze through the a/c. One of the cadets, a very small lad, had trouble keeping the pack on his knee and it started to slide off. Naturally, he grabbed the "D" ring and the chute exploded open, assisted by the breeze. With helping hands from some of us, we tamed the beast and the victim was required to pay the parachute packers a small sum to re-pack it.

There, even more reason to make a Rapide! Oh, and yes I would purchase at least two.

I do stand corrected, Jetfan. I didn't realize they were so widely used -- at least my military reference didn't give me that insight (time for some new books!!). I do know that Canadian Airways (the original Canadian Pacific Airlines) did employ about 7 in various forms (89 / 89a / Dragon Rapide / Rapide) and it appears from my reference they mainly used them on floats. The aircraft does look quiet sharp, IMPO. I'm not too sure how fond Corgi is of the Civil Aviation side, these days, so I rarely mention it.

Well, the good news here, it seems, that 1.) there would be enough variations AND 2.) we can attest to the fact that Corgi has overcome the rigging issue in spades!

Put me down for at the very LEAST two -- starting with an early war RAF one!!! Due to their size, I've got lots of room for those. Do you think there is any chance today of this becoming a reality -- perhaps some lobby-action on DAF is in order?

Re: What Will Corgi Give Us For The Second Half Of 2008?

I fear that Corgi will give us the same in the second half of 2008 as they did in 2007.... missed deadlines, poor communication & more releases of some tired molds.

As loyal as I am to the Pooch I can't help but think if it was not for Tricatus and his excellent site i'd have a lot less of Corgi's offerings.

I really hope they lift their game and start talking to their target audience - a Corgi representative of the caliber of Hawkone for example would be a great start.

Here's hoping - they have announced some exciting releases this year & i've pre-ordered quite a few - high on my wish list is a D Day C-47 and you've gotta ask, why was that not on the original release for this mold

You hit it right on the head...Tricatus' site is the main reason I have as many Corgi products as I do, Lord knows it isn't because of their on-time delivery performance. I wonder if they found Dragon's "Promise Much and Deliver None" manual?

Yeah -- here we go again, eh? It's the beginning of March and I haven't heard so much as a peep from them. By now they should have been delivering my Gibson Mossie and 'Friday the 13th'. Corgi's delivery time sure leaves much to the imagination and needless speculation. (*shaking head*)

I hope that Corgi gives us what they promised for 2008.

It took awhile, but the AA36205 L8009, YK-I, FO Petere Wykeham-BarnesGloster Gladiator Mk.I, will be making it to my front door next week sometime. Hope the Shuttleworth Gladiator comes out quicker.

CC -- You have NO IDEA how much I am waiting for that Shuttleworth Gladiator to arrive -- I even have a spot already marked out for it!!! I honestly wish Corgi would also consider adding something like the Hawker Audax or Fury too -- such wonderful streamlined bi-planes of that early naive and optimistic pre-war era, which is almost a contradiction in itself. Corgi has seriously proven themselves outstanding in this 1:72 bi-plane category, IMPO. They just all seem to abound in magnificent detail! (Maybe it is time to pop in again at DAF and start the lobbying process??)

I would want to see a Bristol Bulldog and possibly Gloster Gauntlet too. I have five of Corgi's Gladiators with one more on the way. I really like their Gladiator model and probably will pickup a few more. Their Fairey Swordfish is another fine looking model that they did a pretty impressive job on.

I'd seriously be up for both of those too. Corgi, IMPO, has done an outstanding job with the stringbags, followed on with these Gladiators. As long as they maintain this impeccable quality of detail, I'm in! The Shuttleworth will be my first, as I got snookered on a Norway one a month or so ago. (I'll eventually get it!)
