Re: scale comparison corgi and matchbox WWI planes

They are all the same 1/48 scale (Matchbox too) and therefore the same size.

Re: scale comparison corgi and matchbox WWI planes

There is an easy way to figure this one out. Fokker Dr.1 had a wingspan of 23 ft 7in and length 18 ft 11in. So in 1/48th scale that would be wingspan 5.9 inches and length 4.73. My Matchbox model measures out to span of 5 7/8 inches and a length of just at 4 3/4, so Matchbox looks to be fairly accurate as far as dimensions go. I have a feeling if you did the same to the Corgi models, you would get the same results.

Matchbox nailed it on scale. I look forward to having more Corgi's and Carousels to mix it up with my Matchbox WW1 planes. The BEST WWI models available with a $12 price tag!

They did put out some nice looking WWI pieces, shame they got out of making aircraft models.

My Hallmark 1/48 scale "Legends in Flight" Dr.1 and SPAD XIIIs aren't bad. Particularly since they were gifts! Will soon be adding Carousel and Corgi models to the WW 1 shelfs.

Re: scale comparison corgi and matchbox WWI planes

Thanks for the info,
this question arrose when I was in Hong Kong and saw a corgi red albatros in 1/48 scale. It seemed quite BIG compared to my matchbox planes. However this may be only an impression and I hope it is, I did not have one of my matchbox plane or a tape measure on me at the time to make an accurate comparison.

So no one but me got this impression then, or no one has a corgi WWI plane yet?

Cheers

Your observation was probably correct. Albatross D Va was a bit larger in wing span and length compared to the Fokker Dr.1 and the Spad XIII.

The Hallmark SPAD is sweet. Too bad I missed out on that one.
