"McKnight's Hat Trick" by Michael Martchenko
On this day, August 30, 1940, following hard fighting, S/LBader tucked in alongside his wingman, "Willie" McKnight as they returned to base. The exuberant Bader held up two fingers indicating his two victories. The Canadian flashed back three indicating a "Hat Trick". Bader was elated. The squadron that day claimed a total of 12 enemy A/C destroyed without loss to themselves. The tide of the battle was turning.

Wow. Nice image, indeed. Too bad my Bader / McKnight combo won't be such a lovely 'matched set of pearl-handled dueling pistols'. Corgi used a different colour prop spinner and bottom on McKnight's plane. Then they added the fuselage ID band. That sure is a great looking painting, Smartd. Thanx for posting it.

My bd comes well before yours -- and I was sure I heard you say you were going to pick up the tab for mine? I'll get my shipping address over to you this afternoon, OK?

Yeah top colours and markings are completely different as well.
But, Bader wrote in his book that sometimes he could not recognize his plane because the colours/pattern seemed to change every week.

Which book is this? I only have 'Reach for the Sky' and I can't remember it being in there (mind you i last read it in 1967! Duh!! ).

For those keeping track, I did order this McKnight Hurricane from Perry's this morning. Final cost with shipping? (OUCH!!!) Hard lesson learned. All I'm going to say is, next time, don't wait for a model to go out of circulation to the point of having to go to Perry's! You WILL pay a premium for it! A REAL premium -- I still have a Handling Fee ($5.00), GST (5%) and PST (8%) to contend with too! For a real laugh, check out their price on the BOAC Comet 4. THAT will sober anyone up in a New York minute! That's why my Bookmark for them is labeled: 'Perry's -- Last Chance'

(If anyone is interested, you can PM me for the FINAL cost -- I ain't sayin' here)

It was a book that he wrote, I picked it up a couple of years ago at the Vanwell warehouse sale. I check it out when I get home.

Almost like he speculates on certain models,... all the Brit models I want are 3 times the normal price. Happily I have been able to chip away at finding those via other sources.

Start a new thread,... Guess the cost. I'll say it cost you,.................... $79.00 landed.
