Working Range Hurri Touched Down...

Finally got that working range BOBMF Hurri I snagged off the bay for $42... must say I am delighted with it.

Sure, it's geeky but I am an airplane geek so I don't mind -- and the kiddies love it! (almost as much as I do... ). The box had quite a bit of water damage but the model was absolutely cherry -- take the stand out of the picture (and the working prop, engine sound, and lights and gear) and it's still well worth the dough just for the model.

I do think it's nutty how you have to throw the switch once to start the gear loweirng/raising and then again to stop it at the proper orientation...

When I get my new light for the photo tent I'll take some pics and maybe post some video of it "in action". Just to make Skunky jealous if nothing else

Re: Working Range Hurri Touched Down...

Lucky you, Pappy, & well-done with your purchase........Glad you're a "Happy-Pappy" (groan !)

I had to double-check, to see WHAT model you were talking about

TWO interesting points to note, about YOUR Hurricane, that spring to my mind (upon finding out which model it was.......)

First, that the REAL "YB*W" served with No.17 Squadron at Debden (Northern-Essex) - which later became the famous-home of the 4th Fighter-Group - Blakeslee, Gentile, Godfrey, Goodson, et-al & the actual base where P.51-B "Shangri-La" lived, fought & flew from (& eventually 'crashed' on c/o an over-zealous Gentile !!!!!!!!!!)

I'm an 'Essex'-lad, see, & used to ride past the base, regularly on my bike in my 'Avatar' !!!!!!!!

Secondly, that LF.363 the ACTUAL Hurricane that it represents, not only starred in famous-films (like, "Angels One-Five".....& "The One That Got Away" - about von-Werra), but that it actually came to 'Grief' back in the Late-1990's, when an Ultra-Cool & VERY skilful BBMF pilot deliberately 'crashlanded' (SET) the plane down, as it caught fire -

Luckily, he lived & got away lightly, & because of his skilful-flying (& 'set down'), enough was 'saved' to have this famous airframe (LF.363) re-built, back to flying standard & condition..........= result all-round

Interesting info Hornchurch....I have many happy memories of riding along the B184 on my way back from Brands Hatch after watching Barry Sheene & co in the 1970s & going to Debden airfield in the summer of 1969 to see the planes from the BoB film give a display

Mate !!!!!! my Suzuki GS.1000 (the bike in my 'Avatar') used to LIVE on the B.184

Funny enough, she's also the ONLY one of my numerous bikes ever to go round the track at Brands, when I used to help do 'Marshalling' for a short-period of time (around the 'Fred-Merkel'/Kevin-Schwantz/Terry Rymer period !!!!!!!) at the famous circuit.

Blimey, so you must have witnessed some of the famous Sheene/Roberts duels around that time ??????

Nimrod, what were you riding around on ? Must be even older vintage than mine ?

As for watching 'that' show at Debden itself, you are indeed, a 'Lucky-Man' !!!!!!!!!!

Such a tragedy that so many of those beautiful/famous bases closed 'tween then & now

Don't s'pose you got any pictures from that event, you, or your Dad, Grandpa, etc ?????????

I've only remembered it Latterly as 'Carver-Barracks' - yet, EVERYTIME I would ride-past on that Beautiful B.184 road, I would ALWAYS mentally acknowledge the 4th Fighter-Group & visualise those famous pictures of the 'Handover' ceremony on that rainy-weekday in late September 1942, when the THREE Squadrons that had been born in the RAF (71, 121 & 133) suddenely after lunchtime, became the 334th, 335th & 336th F.S. = the 4th Fighter Group, under Don Blakeslee !!!!!!!!
Wake up in the RAF, & go to bed that same night in the USAAF with Triple-pay & better uniforms (lol !).

If the Army ever dispose of 'Carver-Barracks', lets hope they slap a preservation-order on that 'Hallowed-Ground' (?)

Most folks don't even know, that 71 (Sq) 'kicked-off' on Brewster Buffaloes in North-Lincolnshire, before they were relegated to the Far-East & replaced by (truly) 'clapped-out' Hurricane 1's, which caused much upset in the fledgling 'Yank' Squadrons !!!!!!!! (don't blame 'em)

Pappy, you can now display some Red-Nosed '51 Razorbacks next to ya 'prop-sound' Debden Hurricane (NOT one of the 'clapped' OTU jobs !!!!!)

Geez I'm feeling so old. Bob McIntyre (first to break the 100mph mark), John Surtees and Geoff Duke were my boyhood heroes.
