| New Release Favorites I really like the Gladiators and the Hawk, Got the 1st two and the 3rd is on its way now. Neat new releases and something different as well. The rigging on the Gladiators is amazing. I have some good pics but until you can post them in the message I do not want to post. Flaps | |||||||||||||

Well I dont disagree in whole w/ that observation but dont think it is true of the whole Corgi line. Yes some (perhaps even many) are a bit toylike in a way. Others though are great models in my opinion. The Gladiators for example are great and executed as well as many of the hand built work I see @ my local model club. Now the P-51's I agree are so "stiff" w/ the lack of moving flaps and canopy they do come across far more toylike than say the Dragon 51's. Talk about toylike, those ridiculous little men Corgi insists on stuffing in the planes are abominable... They must let small children and house pets paint them! Sorry, that was a completley unwarranted attack on small children and house pets... I'm so ashamed.

Ya know, Skunky, I used to salivate over Corgi models. I was so far gone on the things I was downright obsessive: I couldn’t look at one without whipping out my credit card and purchasing it. And that was all fine and good a year or two ago. But these days I compare Corgi models against Witty and Dragon – and Hobby Master especially – and find them wanting. Again, not to say that Corgi isn’t terrific. It’s just that we have only so much money to pour into this hobby; and that being the case, why not pour it into the best models available? I have no quarrel with Corgi supporters. Like I said, Corgi models are wonderful. I just want more bang for the buck.

Sums it up pretty succinctly right there. I do have to give Corgi credit for covering such a broad spectrum, and maybe for me to relegate them to the toy department was being a bit unfair - that is until I remind myself of their Mustangs.

| Re: What are your favorite Corgi models?
The shipping on these two are utterly insane! I ordered my 1/32 Hartmann from a vendor in England and he packed it extremely well and shipped it to me for $24 (12 pounds but I am too ignorant to know how to use the pound symbol). Ebay shipping is notorious but it never fails to chafe my hide.

| Re: What are your favorite Corgi models?
You make a great point, Gort. I only came into this hobby about 6 - 7 months ago and it has been an insane trip for me. I started out as a Dragon fanatic due to the Kansas Tornado P-47 and several pieces of armor. I soon fell in to the trap of "limited" and bought Corgi's left and right to try and build my collection. Now, the introduction of Hobby Master and Gemini Wings is making it harder to keep up and something has to give. I shudder to think how much I have spent on diecast this year. I decided a few months ago that I needed to dial it back a bit and luckily the decline of Corgi (IMHO) has helped but the rise of Hobby Master is almost making that a mute point. I'll buy the Swordfish and P-38 and I am seriously considering a Gladiator but overall the line seems tired. The greatest thing in Corgi's favor is their limited status which drives their resale value. I don't collect for that purpose myself but you can't deny they sway this apparently has on many collectors. If Corgi ever has to rely on their quality and detail they may find themselves perpetually chasing their tales agains the likes of Hobby Master.

No, thanks. I have a 2 year old myself so I raided his stash. I am much better now. On a side note, 2 under 2? You are a saint. I thought a 5 year old and a 2 year old were challenging....

| Re: What are your favorite Corgi models? No particular order: Mosquito, Thailand 1945 - The more I look at this one, the more I am facinated with it. The silver (Aluminium) paint scheme; Commonwealth SE Asia roundrels; nose armament - 4 cannon/4 machine guns. Also the more I look at the Mosquito in 3 dimensions - this thing just looks "futuristic" (aerodynamic lines, shape) compared to all the other aircraft at the time. Designed in the late '30's??? Corsair - Marine's Dream - early corsair; birdcage canopy. like the two-tone with the light , faded overall color. Pin-up nose art. Kedrick, USS Bunker Hill VF-84, 1945 - EXCELLENT weathering/battle scarring. P-51 - "Bunnie"/"Creamer's Dream" - silver finish well done. Difficult to like one of these over the other. Love the pin-up on CD, but the painted gear doors on B are really flashy. Red tails on both - bright flashy planes. Fw 190 - 'Yellow 2', Starr its a Fw 190 - and that camo paint scheme - enough said. P-47 - Rozzie Geth II/Miss Fire - Chics on a plane! Invasion stripes. Spifire - Legends USAAF Western Desert 1943 - Paint scheme/desert tans and browns. Love the US roundrel bordered in yellow. Good looking paint scheme on a great looking plane. P-40's - I like 'em all! B-25 "Bats Outa Hell" - dynamic looking model. Silver/blue w/ nose art. How many .50's can you put in the nose of one aircraft? B-17 - "Bit O Lace" - Silver/yellow looks great. Incredible/sexy nose art. Its a B-17. (Also the price I picked it up for at TM def. makes it a favorite - let alone the time/effort I put in to find one. --- yeah. yeah - the time/effort probably cancels out the great price - but there is something to say about the "victory" of the chase/hunt.) (To be honest - I don't think there is a Corgi I own that isn't a "favorite" in some way.) | |||||||||||||
